The product, in the report: Wooden whiskey cups. Approximately 200ml in volume. The cups are supposedly made of oak. They come in 2 varieties. One has a charred interior and the other is supposedly coated with beeswax. They have the company logo branded on the bottom.
I purchased wooden whiskey cups from the online retailer Oak & Smoke Co. Upon using these cups for their intended purpose, consuming alcoholic beverages, multiple individuals experienced an immediate, severe adverse physical reaction. Every person who drank from the cups suffered acute inflammation, irritation, and the subsequent peeling of the skin on the roof of their mouth.Because alcohol acts as a solvent, it appears to be leaching highly toxic, non-food-safe industrial chemicals, sealants, anti-fungal treatments, or lacquers directly out of the wood and into the beverage. The product is manufactured and dropshipped from Ningbo, China, completely bypassing domestic food-safe manufacturing regulations and quality control standards. This product poses an immediate, severe chemical burn or toxic ingestion hazard to unsuspecting consumers. The merchant is actively marketing these dangerous goods to U.S. consumers under the guise of a boutique brand, while hiding their overseas origins and enforcing impossible international return logistics to prevent complaints.
