The product, in the report: Mr. Coffee 18-oz Glass Tumbler with Lid. Glass double wall design travel mug with a silicone lid.
We purchased a few of these glass tumblers from Walmart, “Mr. Coffee 18-oz Glass Tumbler with Lid” The single ones are sold in stores, Walmart item #552018950. The 2-packs are sold on Walmart.com, item #552156498. I have not seen them sold anywhere else.
The first incident was on March 21, 2015. My husband was holding one and tripped. It shattered, slicing his hand open in many places. A trip to the hospital was avoided, but barely. We figured since he tripped, it made sense, but shouldn’t travel mugs be a little sturdier? Made of tempered or shatterproof glass?
Well, he gave them a chance, and purchased another one. The second incident happened April 5, 2015. His second tumbler was on the table. My finger tip barely brushed the top, not even enough to knock the cup over, but it shattered! It is clear that it broke when I touched it, because there were large shards of glass on the table. If it broke when it hit the floor, there wouldn’t be glass on the table. Thankfully, I froze, and my husband was wearing shoes, so he was able to get mine and we could clean up.
I am terrified that a small child will touch their parent’s tumbler and the same thing will happen, maybe even with hot coffee in it! These mugs are extremely unsafe! Similar reviews have been posted on Walmart.com.
Please recall these! Thank you.
