The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

  1. No one hurt

Made Oct 4, 2026, sent to the company Oct 7, 2026, published by CPSC Oct 22, 2026

The product, in the report: Product Name: Ello 64oz Hydra Stainless Steel Jug Product Category: Drinkware / Water Bottles (Hydra Metal line) Manufacturer / Brand: Ello Products (Leapfrog Brands) Retailer: Target Colorway: Light Gray Capacity / Volume: 64 fl oz / 1/2 Gallon Dimensions: Approximately 11.5 inches (H) x 5.4 inches (W) x 5.4 inches (D) Materials: Vacuum-insulated stainless steel body with a plastic and silicone straw/spout lid mechanism Primary Purpose: Daily personal hydration / portable cold water storage

I am filing this report because I discovered significant mold growth inside an unreachable, non-disassemblable internal cavity of the mouthpiece assembly on my Ello 64oz Hydra Stainless Steel Jug. The product was being used as intended by an adult for standard daily hydration. Moisture gets permanently trapped in an internal chamber that no brush, hand-washing, or dishwasher cycle can clean or dry. Because the internal plastics are dark, the black mold completely blends in, making it virtually impossible to notice during routine visual inspection. I only spotted it because my jug is Light Gray, consumers who purchased dark or black colorways will be completely unaware that they are drinking from a contaminated bottle. When I contacted Target, they provided no resolution. I then reached out to the manufacturer (Ello), who merely offered a replacement lid which fails to address the underlying issue, as a identical replacement lid will inevitably trap moisture and grow mold again like a ticking time bomb. While no immediate emergency medical treatment occurred, continuous ingestion of liquid passing through a mold-contaminated, un-cleanable mechanism poses an ongoing health hazard for respiratory, allergic, or digestive illness.
