Product InformationProduct Name: Country Gate Ceramic Coffee MugManufacturer/Brand: Enesco, LLCProduct Description: Vintage ceramic coffee mug in a pale/tranquil blue color featuring an embossed oak leaf pattern around the upper edge/rim. The bottom of the mug is stamped “Microwave and Dishwasher Safe.”Incident DetailsDescription of Hazard: This ceramic mug is incorrectly labeled as “microwave safe.” When placed in a standard microwave for 45 to 60 seconds, the ceramic material and the handle absorb the microwave energy directly and superheat to an extreme, dangerous temperature. The handle becomes too hot to safely hold, creating an immediate burn hazard and causing the user to reflexively drop the mug.Incident Summary: Upon heating coffee for approximately 45 to 60 seconds, the handle and body of the mug became violently hot. This caused me to instantly drop the mug upon picking it up, spilling hot coffee into the microwave, onto the floor, and onto my shoes. A secondary user (my mother) has independently experienced the exact same extreme overheating issue with this specific line of mugs. This product poses a serious risk of severe burn injuries from both the superheated ceramic and the resulting hot liquid spills.
