The product, in the report: Bodum 12 oz Pavina Double Wall Insulated Tumberl, High-heat Borosilicate glass, set of 6 clear

I recently purchased a set of Bodum 12 oz Pavina double wall insulated tumblers. They are made of borosilicate glass and reported to be able to use with hot or cold beverages. I was drinking a glass of ice water from one of the numbers and was almost finished when I noticed that there was water in between the double walls of glass. Upon further inspection I found a dime sized hole in the bottom and glass fragments floating inside the wall. I am not sure if I drank any of the fragments or not.

The product, in the report: Manufacturer - “Bodum” double-walled borosilicate glass drinking glasses -- water tumbler size/model

I used a “Bodum” double-walled, borosilicate drinking glass for milk with ice cubes. When I finished my drink and went to rinse the glass I realized that there was a hole in the inner surface of the bottom. This hole is about 1/2 the area of the intereior bottom. The shards were caught between the two walls of the glass. I reported this by e-mail to Starbucks [where I had purchased twelve of these glasses at about $10/per] and to the Bodum Company website. Starbucks responded by saying they were sorry the product failed and sent two free drink coupons. Bodum sent me an e-mail which took the tack that I was at fault, and implied that I was an idiot. They indicated that product information which was supposed to accompany purchase indicated that one should “not drop ice cubes” into the empty glass. By the way, I had not done that. In my contact with both Starbucks and Bodum I stated my belief that these glasses are not safe. As to Bodum’s safety statements -- do they really expect that everyone who uses one of these glasses after it leaves the store is going to be aware of their safety “warnings”? Children and adults, residents or guests in a household, are just going to use them as they would any single-wall glass and expect them to be just as safe as any normal glass.

Even after Bodum’s somewhat insulting response I was prone to let the whole matter drop out of lack of interest in reporting it to you. I have just been very careful with the glasses I have left. However, a second glass has developed an inch long crack which starts on the top edge, the drinking lip. It angles down from there. It is easily apparent to the eye; it feels like it is on the outer shell/surface of the glass.

I think these glasses are a hazard.
