The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

  1. No one hurt

Made Jul 2, 2026, sent to the company Jul 8, 2026, published by CPSC Jul 22, 2026

The product, in the report: The product is the 16 oz Anchor Hocking Rio drinking glass, which has a squarish shape and a weighted base.

We purchased 16 Anchor Hocking Rio glasses on Amazon. Two of them arrived with safety defects. They were not damaged in shipping. Both had a raised “fin” of glass on the bottom, which was not immediately obvious. The “fin” was a narrow piece of glass sticking up from the bottom of the glass.

I was drying one of the glasses with a dish towel and a shard of glass about half an inch long broke off from the fin. If I hadn’t noticed the fin and had been stirring something in the glass, that shard might have broken off and been swallowed.

The similarity of the safety defects suggests that Anchor Hocking may have a problem with its manufacturing process. There may be other glasses that have similar safety defects. I have reported the problem to Anchor Hocking and to Amazon. Both have said they will investigate the issue. Amazon sent me replacement glasses. I am posting this here in hopes of alerting other customers of the need to inspect Anchor Hocking Rio glasses closely until the matter is resolved.

The product, in the report: Anchor Hocking drinking glasses. 8 oz and 16 oz set. Bought from Walmart.

I bought a set of Anchor Hocking drinking glasses from Walmart several months ago. Recently, while putting hot water into the glasses, the glasses cracked and the bottom part came off. It happened to 2 of the 16 glasses. I was lucky that I was not holding the glasses when that happened. Imagine what injuries it would cause if the glasses broke and hot water spilled on the body! I stopped using the glasses and contacted Anchor Hocking but didn’t get any response yet. Those glasses should be recalled!

The product, in the report: Anchor Hocking, 16 ounce Rio style tumbler, Item# 80850L8.

I purchased 16 piece set of Anchor Hocking Rio style glassware about 3 months ago. I had a tumbler break while in the dishwasher. It had a right triangle shape break off the top of the glass, about 1.5 inches by 2 inches. The dishwasher was ran on a normal cycle with energy saving (low heat) dry cycle. It was on the top shelf, and did not have any other items close that could have banged into it. Used Finish brand dishwasher tablets, I do not use abrasive items to scrub the glasses.

Made Feb 26, 2012, sent to the company Mar 5, 2012, published by CPSC Mar 26, 2012

The product, in the report: Anchor Hocking Company 16pc “Square” drinking glass set. Barcode on box is 7644080850

While washing a brand new, just out of the box, Anchor Hocking 16oz drinking glass, a chunk broke off, making a rather large cut/laceration on my index finger. I was hand washing all the glasses because there were no instructions given in the box. I had washed all the 11.5oz glasses and was the seventh 16oz glass when it broke. There was no damage to the glass before hand, as I inspected all of them before putting them into the sink prior to washing.

Made Nov 18, 2011, sent to the company Nov 28, 2011, published by CPSC Dec 12, 2011

The product, in the report: A tall, glass drinking glass, in a distorted “hourglass” type shape

I was hand washing a tall drinking glass, and as I was washing the inside of the glass, a large chuck of the cup broke off. The broken edge cut my thumb and index finger knuckle before I could react, and the cuts were so deep I had to go to the ER to have my wounds addressed. I missed one day of work because I could not use my hand.
