  1. No one hurt

Made Aug 2, 2024, sent to the company Aug 7, 2024, published by CPSC Aug 21, 2024

The product, in the report: The product is the UpwardBaby silicone bowls. I have the colors gray, blue, and green. The dimensions are 5.12”W x 2.36”H. I bought them off Amazon.

This morning as I was feed my one year old breakfast we had a shocking situation occur. I was feeding him yogurt in a Upward Baby silicone bowl. My 1 year old has learned to pick them up and throw them on the ground. This morning he decided he wanted to lick the remaining yogurt out of his bowl. I thought it was cute/funny at first until the silicone bowl suctioned to his face. He tried to pull the bowl of his face and had no luck it was airtight. Thankfully I was sitting right there and immediately went into action and pushed my finger under the rim of the bowl and broke the suction and was able to pull it off before anything terrible happened. It was a terrifying experience the silicone bowl could have suffocated him. What if I had stepped away for a minute to use the restroom or had turned my back to wash a few dishes. It would have been silent it could have been life threatening. Im thankful I always watch my child while he eats. But what if another parent doesnt. Or they dont even consider that this could happen. I could have never imagined that his bowl could really hurt him.

  3. No one hurt

Made Jul 26, 2023, sent to the company Jul 28, 2023, published by CPSC Aug 11, 2023

The product, in the report: Upward Baby Bowls with Suction - 4 Piece Silicone Set with Spoon for Babies Kids Toddlers - BPA Free Baby Led Weaning Food Plates - First Stage Self Feeding Utensils. The bowl is round, circular silicone bowl made of a very flexible material. The bottom is designed to suction to a table. It comes in a set of 3, gray, green and blue colors with potentially other colors sold by manufacturer.

My 2.8 year old was eating from a UpwardBaby silicone bowl (advertised with an “Amazon Choice” badge online). She lifted the bowl up to sip some left over liquid. The bowl became suctioned to her face, covering her nose and mouth, and she was unable to breath or remove the bowl. After realizing she was struggling, I removed the bowl with effort by sticking my finger between bowl and face. Had I not been sitting right next to her, it easily could have resulted in a tragic or fatal event with injury. This product is not suitable for use by toddlers.

The product, in the report: This is a grey, flexible silicone bowl made by UpwardBaby that I purchased from Amazon and came in a baby led weaning set of this bowl, a silicone placemat/bowl combination, three silicone spoons, and three silicone bibs.

My 20-month-old son was finishing lunch and playing around with his now empty silicone suction cup bowl while I cleaned the table around him. He had the bowl upside down, hitting it like a drum. He then put the bowl up to his face, making sounds into it and tapping the bottom, being silly. The next thing I know, he’s shaking his head side to side because the bowl was suctioned to his face, covering his nose and mouth. He couldn’t breath and couldn’t remove it on his own. Luckily I was right there and able to take it off. I bought this bowl from Amazon, it was part of a baby led weaning package from UpwardBaby that included this grey silicone suction cup bowl, a silicone placement/bowl combination, 3 silicone spoons, and 3 silicone bibs.
