  1. No one hurt

Made Jan 12, 2015, sent to the company Mar 24, 2015, published by CPSC Apr 7, 2015

The product, in the report: Glass & Metal Thermal Carafe

01/12/2015 The consumer was drying her unit with a paper towel. All of a sudden the unit exploded in her hands, landing in her pans, counter and floor. Because she was speaking to her friend and not looking directly down on the unit, the shattered glass pieces never made contact with her face.

The consumer contacted the manufacturer at 714-449-0733 to find out why her unit had exploded in such a violent way. She spoke to a lady at their Customer Service Department and was transferred to [REDACTED] in the Technical Support Divisions. After explaining what had occurred to this representative, he informed her that she was not supposed to put anything inside the unit in order to dry it. The consumer told the representative that there was nothing on the manual stating that she could not use a paper towel to dry it. The representative said that for the past thirty years they have been using the same Instructions Manual but that common sense says that she should have just turned the carafe upside-down for drying.

The consumer has done some research online and has founds numerous complaints regarding this unit exploding like hers did and for other various reasons.

Because the consumer just purchased it a few days ago, she will be taking it back to the retailer for a reimbursement. The consumer has no injuries to report. The consumer believes this product poses a safety hazard.
