The product, in the report: Corelle Dishes
I accidentally knocked 4 Corella Bowls onto my counter. Its not a stone counter top. They exploded into a 1000 pcs. I did not know this could happen. This warning should be on their box. The pcs went into 2 rooms. My feet were cut. Thank goodness a baby was not around. My 2 dogs were lucky not to get cut. I was also lucky it didn’t get in my eye.

The product, in the report: This was from a Corning Corelle dishware set including dinner plates, lunch plates, mugs, small and large bowls, and small plates. The medium and large plates have a dark gray vine/leaf design on the rims. I could not find the product on the corelle website.
Over the last year, the edges of our Corelle dishes (dinner and lunch plates) have become chipped and in some cases very sharp. Four plates have simply cracked in half in the dishwasher. This morning I found two pieces of a dinner dish in the dishwasher.

No one hurt Made Sep 4, 2019, sent to the company Sep 25, 2019, published by CPSC Oct 16, 2019
The product, in the report: Corelle Livingware dinnerware, City Block pattern Corelle Livingware® City Block 76-Pc Dinnerware Set, Product No: 1112023
We have very hard water, so I began using [REDACTED] in our dishwasher. We also have Corelle dinnerware. After several months of using [REDACTED] as an additive with our dishwasher detergent packets, we noticed that the previously smooth rims on the Corelle felt rough.
I suspect that the Corelle is being dissolved by the [REDACTED]. Now small fragments of the Corelle edges flake off when touched. No injuries have occurred, but they would certainly be possible considering the flaking glass-like edges.
Over time, [REDACTED] has removed some of the printed logos, etc, from our glassware, so perhaps I shouldn’t have been surprised. However, there are no warning labels on the [REDACTED] and nothing in the Corelle product information or warranty information that suggests that products like Lemi-Shine should not be used.
I contacted Corelle via their website to report what has happened and to ask if this was a known issue. The only response I got was an offer of a discount if I want to buy another set of Corelle.
I suspect that our Corelle is now more prone to breakage, since the integrity of the edge has been compromised. I’m also concerned that someone will get a glass fragment from handling the dinnerware. We’ve used Corelle for decades and nothing like this has happened before.
In my opinion, both the Corelle and the [REDACTED] should have some kind of warning label. [REDACTED] has no directions as to quantity to use, so it is possible that using less would avoid this problem. I am concerned that this is happening to other people who may not realize what is going on and how dangerous it could be.

The product, in the report: Corelle dinnerware
I was preparing lunch for my husband and me, and had two dinner plates simply sitting on my Formica kitchen counter ready for sandwiches. The plates were not warmed in the microwave or in the oven and they were not taken from the freezer or the refrigerator, when suddenly there was an explosive noise one of the plates simply broke apart. It shattered into thousands of little glass pieces, and spewed shards all over my kitchen and into my dining room like projectile missiles! It was very frightening! The dinnerware is not even a-year-old yet, and has no chips, cracks or breakage. I’m afraid to use the dinnerware anymore.

The product, in the report: tea cup
The consumer made tea and poured it in the tea cup. The consumer sat down on her couch and began drinking her tea. Approximately 4 minutes later, the handle on the tea cup fell apart where it connected to the tea cup. The consumer indicated that the tea spilled over her left hand, left leg and onto her bottom. The consumer states that her left leg and bottom are very red and it feels numb.
The consumer plans to contact the firm to inform them about the incident.
The consumer indicated that she purchased 6 more of these tea cups and they were sold individually. The consumer uses the tea cups daily.
The consumer noticed that the handle is glued onto the cup versus being molded and she believes the glue is not reliable. The consumer believes this presents a safety hazard because it can happen with the other cups.

The product, in the report: Corelle Impressions T Pewter 16-piece dinnerware set (3 sets)
Three years ago I purchased three sets of Corelle dinnerware. I have used Corelle in the past and have had no problems. About five weeks ago, I heard a crash in the cabinet where the dinner plates were kept. One of the plates had broken into numerous sharp shards. I assumed that it was a flaw in that one plate and that I had stacked them so it broke. I took a picture because it was so strange.
About three weeks ago, we had set the table for dinner. Fortunately no one was at the table yet. One of the dinner plates exploded into sharp shards that shot several inches. I believe three others of our family members were in the room and saw it happen. We cleaned up tiny, sharp shards of Corelle on the table, the floor and the tablecloth.
I contacted Corelle and informed them about the issue, but their response was that my plates were purchased three years ago and all they could do was replace them with plain white. That is not what I wanted. I want them to recall the plates or be required to have a warning that they can spontaneously explode. When I looked on the internet, other people have had the same problem, some people were injured..

The product, in the report: Corelle bowls
I have small Corelle dishes for my children - I was pulling apart 2 small bowls and one shattered into a bazillion pieces. I had cuts on my hands - I didn’t see or feel the glass cutting me, because some of the shards are microscopic. I found shards in 2 adjoining rooms as well. I completely understand that glass breaks, but this was like a small bomb went off.

No one hurt Made May 8, 2013, sent to the company May 15, 2013, published by CPSC Jun 6, 2013
The product, in the report: Corelle Livingware, pattern:Serenity. Dinner plate.
2 year old Corelle Livingware (pattern Serenity) dinner plate tipped off our standard height kitchen counter onto the wood floor and shattered into tiny shards with a very loud cracking sound. It was not knocked with any force, just not quite placed all the way on the counter. The hundreds of razor sharp pieces extended at least 10’ from the point of impact, unlike other dishware which might break into several pieces close to where it hits the floor. The plate was dry with a small amount of food residue on it; plate, counter, and kitchen were all a normal room temperature. The plate had not been heated in the microwave prior to being used for the meal. Based on the manufacturer’s exclusion of “accidental breakage” from the warranty (which appears to cover almost nothing that realistically might happen to a dish in use in a household) and many other consumer reports of manufacturer inaction in response to similar incidents, I did not report this to the manufacturer; however, I took pictures to document the breakage.

The product, in the report: Corelle Square Fine Lines Vitrelle glass dinnerware. 9” square Luncheon Plate.
We purchased a set of Corelle Fine Lines Vitrelle dinnerware in March of 2010 and have used it daily since then without incident. Tonight, after preparing his dinner in the microwave (NOT using the Corelle), my husband transferred the food to a Corelle luncheon plate. He had the plate sitting on his desk in front of him and after eating for about 5 minutes, the dish shattered under his food. He was not injured.

The product, in the report: I don’t remember the specific name of the Corelle product. They are pure white bowls and plates.
One of several small Corelle bowls sitting in a stack broke spontaneously into several pieces and many slivers. It had not been misused (per Corelle’s warnings) nor bumped--it was just sitting there between other bowls of the same kind.
Later the same day, a small Corelle plate that had been sitting untouched on our table for hours split in half with a loud crack, spontaneously, creating numerous small slivers. Again, none of our Corelle dishes are ever used against the manufacturer’s directions.
We have had probably a dozen Corelle bowls crack and splinter in a similar fashion in the three years we have been using them. Sometimes it’s with a slight bump in the dishwasher, but sometimes it’s spontaneous like the two incidents today.
