The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

The product, in the report: 30 PC WM BF BAKE & STORE SET ECOM

I received the Anchor Hocking glassware for christmas. I washed it and set it in my cabinets. About a week later, I needed a small container to put some noodles in. The container had not been in the oven nor the fridge, the noodles were slightly warm. After I ate them, I set the glass bowl on my nightstand. About 5 minutes later, the bowl exploded. Glass shards and chunks flew everywhere. I sat there shocked and shaken because I wasn’t sure what happened. I was sitting a foot away. I thought, “did it fall?” But the majority of the base was still sitting on my nightstand. I put my slippers on to start to clean up the class and a piece that had apparently landed on my slipper, went into by big toe. I saved the big pieces of glass and some smaller ones. I looked up the possibility of exploding glassware online because I was convinced that maybe a ghost did something. I did not think glass could just explode, but it did. And to my surprise, I found out that that happens alot. I am still shocked by the incident because I was sitting next to it. I have called Anchor Hocking twice but both times they have been closed.

The product, in the report: clear glass mugs

Bought several glass mugs from Walmart. On two separate occasions, I was heating water in a microwave when the glass mug cracked. Obviously, these mugs are not meant for tea or coffee, as they can’t seem to handle heated water without cracking.

This is the product I’m reporting: http://www.anchorhocking.com/prodd_5790_cat_7_2_qt_bistro_pitcher_w_white_stopper.html

I was making tea with this pitcher. I’d been using it about a month for this purpose. The pitcher was in no way damaged. I was pouring hot water into the pitcher to steep the tea and the pitcher exploded. The pitcher was less than a foot in front of me as I poured the water from the tea kettle into the pitcher. The boiling water and glass shot out towards my body. I suffered 2nd degree burns across my stomach and down my right leg covering my thigh from my hip to my knee.

  5. No one hurt

Made Sep 3, 2015, sent to the company Sep 14, 2015, published by CPSC Oct 5, 2015

The product, in the report: 16 oz clear glass mug with handle. Anchor Hocking logo on bottom.

We have a set of Anchor Hocking Coffee glasses with handles that we’ve used for the past couple of years without incident. Tonight, after I poured boiling water into the glass mugs which had tea bags in them, one of the glasses violently exploded. I was not wearing shoes at the time and our kitchen floor is slate, so I instinctively jumped back more than a yard to avoid injury. The shards of glass were large and jagged. They flew several feet across the room. I stood frozen and called for my husband to help me. Fortunately I was wearing glasses and was not injured.

This was a very traumatic experience for me. What if this had happened to a child or an elderly person? This glass did not break, IT EXPLODED!

The product, in the report: Anchor Hocking Clear Glass 2 qt. Batter Bowl Item# 81605L11

Handle melts on glass bowl. Causes burns.

Anchor Hocking Clear Glass 2 qt. Batter Bowl Item# 81605L11

Purchased at the local Menards store on March 5, 2015.

The item is marked as microwave safe.

Placed a quart of water into bowl (which looks like a large measuring cup) and placed into microwave (residential 1050 watt) to heat the water.

Went to check progress after several minutes. Side of bowl was barely warm, water was barely warm. Reached for handle and it was extremely hot.

Received burns across all fingers including some blistering.

Closer examination of bowl showed that the glass handle had melted and was misshapen.
