Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

The product, in the report: Kirkland Signature brand Himalayan Pink Salt in a disposable, adjustable grinder. 368.5g (13 oz.) container. Item #656537. Same problem is also observed with the Kirkland Signature brand Tellicherry Black Pepper in the same disposable, adjustable grinder. 6.3 oz. (178g) container. Item #261105.

The product is Kirkland Signature brand Himalayan Pink Salt from Costco in a disposable, adjustable grinder (368.5g container). It was purchased in June or July 2014. Soon after we started using it, cracks began to form in the plastic ring (the part you turn to grind and dispense the salt). It still worked so we continued using it. At some point a plastic disc also fell out of the top, but it still worked so we kept using it. On the evening of 12 August 2014, I was dispensing salt when one of the cracked edges cut my left hand at the base of my index finger. These are large containers that last for months when used by a typical family. In the past, we have purchased the sea salt and black pepper grinders from Costco in the same containers, and used them completely up without ever seeing any cracks. This Himalayan pink salt container developed cracks immediately. We also just bought another black pepper grinder from Costco in late July and it already is starting to develop small cracks as well. It makes me wonder if they recently changed the design (thickness or material) of the top of these grinders. We will be returning both of these to Costco for a refund.
