The product, in the report: I had this product for about 3 weeks and used it daily. Yesterday while using it I filled it with around a half cup of coffee beans, set the cover and pressed the lever/button. My usual custom is to cover the grinder with a towel to muffle the sound and near the finish give the unit a shake. Yesterday I did not cover it with a towel. During the shake while my thumb was still pressing the piece that activates the power, the cover disengaged and flew off. The blades were still powered and running with NO cover. The cover separated from the “on button” piece. The electric cord has been cut off of this unit for safety. I will

The bottom has a hidden wire design which is ultimately the design flaw that led to explosion.
Product is a coffee bean grinder from Hamilton Beach. Purchased in 2021, but only used recently in the last 6 months. There is a hidden cord wrap mechanism that seemingly has a design flaw, as you wrap/unwrap the cord for us, the wire insulation deteriorated and exposed copper wire inside. I was only made aware of this after plugging in the machine, having it explode in my hand, and seeing the brunt and exposed wire inside.
I had contacted Hamilton Beach support and they refused to provide a refund, only to replace the item with the same, or something of similar value. After experiencing this, and seeing the many online reviews of the same unsafe incident, I am not interested in their products, and they do not seem to be taking it seriously.
This could have resulted in electrocution, a kitchen fire if kept plugged in over night, or other unforeseen incidents. I have photos of the charred exposed wire, and record of their customer support response if needed.

The product, in the report: Hamilton Beach Fresh Grind 4.5oz Electric Coffee Grinder
The product is a Hamilton Beach Fresh Grind 4.5oz Electric Coffee Grinder. I purchased it on Amazon in July, 2021. I was using the item as intended, and it exploded from the bottom.
The cord is manufactured in a way that when you wind it up, as designed, there is strain on the wire.
