  1. First aid

Made Jan 29, 2023, sent to the company Feb 1, 2023, published by CPSC Feb 15, 2023

The product, in the report: Progressive International Corp.: www.progressiveintl.com Brand: Prepworks Item Name: Deluxe Potato Cutter Silver stamped steel & cast construction with polymer accessories/parts Item Code: GPC-3665 UPC: 078915028693 Production Date Code: None on packaging or product Batch Code: None on packaging or product COO: China

Bought the “Deluxe Potato Cutter” manufactured by Progressive International Corp of Kent Washington, 98032, USA. Upon first use of the product the slicer failed with blades from the cutter not holding under normal use. One blade sheered and lodged in the potato and the other projectile from the casing holding the blades. Fortunately, nobody was on the side of the projectile. However, I did sustain a superficial laceration from the sudden failure and the lever action handle gave way when the blades failed. The product was being used to cut potatoes as instructed from the user manual. Including applying the suction -cup attachment to the counter. Which also failed as well, under normal use. I contacted the company who was apathetic at best to the failure of their product. Upon further research and reviews I’m not the only consumer who’s experienced similar issues with the product failing.

Made Aug 23, 2022, sent to the company Aug 25, 2022, published by CPSC Sep 9, 2022

The product, in the report: Prepworks by Progressive Nut Chopper with Non-Skid Base. It has a red lid, handle, ring between the base and top, and non-stick base. It has 1.5 cup capacity.

After approximately one year of using the Prepworks by Progressive Nut Chopper with Non-Skid Base, the plastic threading to attach the top to the base started to chip. I was unaware of this until I bit on plastic in my food. I didn’t initially know where the plastic came from until the second time it happened. This caused pain in my teeth. It’s possible I swallowed some of the plastic.

  3. No one hurt

Made May 21, 2021, sent to the company May 26, 2021, published by CPSC Jun 10, 2021

The product, in the report: An 8” tall, clear plastic nut chopper with a 3” removable red plastic oval top, a 4” non-removable red plastic base and a 1” red plastic band in the center that is also the location for the top and the bottom to screw together; and too, the location of the metal hand-crank with a red plastic knob-type handle.

In January, 2021, I ordered the above nut chopper from Walmart. When the package arrived, I was incredibly disappointed to see that on the “lip” of the jar in two places, the plastic was broken leaving two jagged edges of plastic where the jar screws into the chopper portion. There were no plastic pieces in the packaging, so it obviously didn’t happen during the mailing process...but rather, in the initial manufacturing and packaging process. That fact made me even more disappointed because that meant that a broken item was selected and sent to me from the vendor. I was then in contact with the vendor and they sent me another nut chopper with no apparent flaws. I was happily using it daily to chop almonds for my oatmeal and yogurt breakfast. Several days ago while eating my usual breakfast of oatmeal, yogurt and chopped almonds, I bit down on something very sharp, jagged and hard. Much to my shock, it was a piece of plastic over ½ “ long and about 1/8” wide. After an immediate investigation, it turned out to be a piece of the edge of the brand new nut chopper. I could have swallowed that thing and done severe damage to my intestines, even unto death.

Since this seems to be a pattern regarding the safety of the plastic rim, there appears to be an engineering flaw in the design of this item. THIS IS A DANGEROUS PIECE OF KITCHEN EQUIPMENT WHICH SHOULD BE IMMEDIATELY REMOVED FROM SHELVES AND FROM THE MANUFACTURING PROCESS. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL OF THIS PARTICULAR NUT CHOPPER.
