How badly anyone was hurt

  • No one hurt 2 CPSC: Incident, No Injury

As each report says it, in short words; CPSC’s own words are under each.

The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

  1. No one hurt

Made Feb 13, 2013, sent to the company Feb 25, 2013, published by CPSC Mar 12, 2013

The product, in the report: Oster 3-Cup Mini Chopper: 3 cup capacity Stainless Steel S- blade 2 speeds - Hi and Low Independent, extra large Hi/Low buttons Drizzle hole on the lid for adding water, oil etc. during chopping without having to remove the lid Convenient Cord Storage Whisk attachment included Spatula included 150 watt motor Dishwasher safe parts for easy clean up Black with chrome accents Model: 3320 http://www.walmart.com/ip/Oster-3-Cup-Mini-Chop/12399568

I purchased the Oster 3 cup chopper August 2011; used it 2-3 times. I could not line up the index marks; additional force would have cracked the plastic bowl and/or lid. Still, the unit ran.

Away from home for most of the next year, I didn’t try again until fall 2012. I re-read the manual. but still could not align the marks. When I removed the cover for a closer look and accidentally touched a start button, I was shocked to see the blade start! Like any food processor, it should NOT run without the cover. The Oster chopper not only runs without the safety index marks aligned, it also runs with the cover completely removed!

I wasn’t injured, but this product is an accident waiting to happen. Possibly it’s unique to a particular batch from 2011. Although several consumers reported the same hazard to CPSC, I found no indication that any action was taken.

The product is still readily available, therefore anyone experiencing the same issue is urged to file a report with CPSC.

  2. No one hurt

The product, in the report: Food Chopper (3 cup)

The consumer stated that the food chopper operates without the lid when it is turned on. She accidentally hit the button while the unit was open and it started to operate (blades moving) which could have caused injury to her hands. The consumer had other food choppers before which would not operate without the lid on. Without a safety mechanism in place that this unit cannot operate with open lid consumers are at the risk of being injured. She had returned the first one to the firm thinking it was defective which was replaced by the second one which has the same mechanism in place. She feels that this food chopper is a safety hazard
