The product, in the report: Fullstar Vegetable Chopper - Spiralizer Vegetable Slicer - Onion Chopper with Container - Pro Food Chopper - Slicer Dicer Cutter - (4 in 1, White) Details Brand fullstar Product Dimensions 2”L x 7.6”W x 3”H Material Stainless Steel Color White Special Feature Multipurpose
Background: The Fullstar Vegetable Chopper arrived a day before on March 7, 2024. Before purchasing the Fullstar Vegetable Chopper, I conducted extensive research over a course of months on various models (can confirm based on search history) where I assessed safety and user friendliness. I selected the Fullstar Vegetable Chopper due to its raving reviews on safety and popularity. The intention of buying the product was to help decrease cooking time, which turned out to be the worst decision of my life.
Saving myself 10 seconds of chopping time has resulted in a life altering event that has now impacted my body, personal life, functionality of my right-dominant hand, employment, and graduate school.
Packaging issue: As I began to open the packaging I realized that there were many red flags in terms of packaging. The loose metal grid was wrapped in plastic. Compared to regular kitchen knives that have thick plastic coverings or sleeves. The spiral cutters had tape covering the sharp edges. Once again, no thick plastic round covering the entry compared to other brands.
It appears that Fullstar Vegetable Chopper is more concerned about saving on packaging costs, rather than increasing their safety measures in terms of packaging. I have the vegetable chopper in a trash bag if needed for further investigation.
Accident: On March 8, 2024, I was working remotely from my house in [REDACTED].
As I began to open the packaging I realized that there were many red flags in terms of packing. The pieces appeared to all be improperly lodged inside of the chopper chamber, where only one of the grids was in a plastic thin sleeve and the exposed (piece that caused damage to my hand) was already attached. As I was inspecting the plastic grid attached to the top lever because it was detached, my right hand was unfortunately centimeters from the exposed grid when it pressed upon the lower side of my right hand below my pinky finger. I was unaware of the metal grid being exposed. Considering that all of the attached pieces were not attached, it never occurred to me that there would be one exposed grid without any safety coverings. Once again, Fullstar Vegetable Chopper was more focused on cheap packaging.
Hospitalization / Surgery: I immediately called 911 for guidance because a significant amount of blood was gushing out of my hand.
I drove myself to the hospital where I received temporary stitches and they were unable to operate on my hand, because there was no hand specialist available. I was told that my tendon was cut and likely to have nerve damage.
On March 18, 2024, ten days after the accident, I underwent surgery. The doctor was able to successfully repair the cut tendon and did not find nerve damage. However, the severity of the trauma to my hand has resulted in intense physical therapy to regain hand function.
The seller has failed to respond to my messages and Amazon claims representative. This product is unsafe and they have been made aware of other issues (based on review responses) they need to be held accountable.
