I was in my kitchen using a Gourmia air fryer (model GAF789) to warm sausages. Afterward, I turned the unit off and went to the nearby dining room to eat. While we were at the table, my daughter, who was sitting across from me, suddenly saw flames and screamed that there was a fire.
I immediately ran back into the kitchen and saw that the top of the air fryerwhere the heating element is locatedwas on fire, even though the unit was off. I reacted quickly, lifted the fryer from the bottom, placed it in the kitchen sink, and extinguished the flames.
Had I left the house shortly afterward to take my children to school, the situation could have been catastrophic, and my home could have burned down.

I have a Gourmia air fryer model GTF7530 that is about one year and 9 months old. It has started turning itself on randomly over the last few days. Most recently it set to 425 degrees for 30 minutes and begins its cycle. This has happened several times that we know of but do not know if it also happened when we were not home. When I reported this to Gourmia they were skeptical and said it was just the fan trying to control the humidity. That is not what is happening.

Recently in February of 2025, I was making breakfast in the air fryer when I noticed a weird noise coming from the air fryer. I looked up and noticed glowing coming from behind the touch screen. I rushed to the air fryer to unplug it. When I opened the air fryer, smoke was pouring out. Luckily I caught the fire quick enough to prevent any injuries.

I have a Gourmia Digital Air Fryer that I purchased from Costco. The doors get got when you use it. But there is an inside seam at the top that gets as hot as the machine temperature. I have been burned twice. I wear oven mitts every time and my arm touched that spot for a few seconds and I got burned. I wasn’t able to wear a sleeve over the burn it was sore the next day and throbbed. If someone, or God forbid, a child touched that it could lead to sever injuries. The warning manual mentions not to touch the inside parts and beware of the steam, but it does not warn about this part. They need to add a rubber seam or something to the inside of that door.

My Gourmia Air Fryer started smoking extremely bad and causing really strong burning smell while we was cooking bacon in it, this has happened twice now. once a few weeks ago and today 01/02/2025. The first time it happened we thought it was just the bacon grease popping on the coils but it never happened prior, so I wiped it off and decided to give it another try today and it caused my whole house to fill with smoke and a horrible smell. GOURMIA GAF798 is unsafe because the tray falls out causing burns to my hand and the coating has been flaking into my food. I am currently trying to find out whether this product has been contributing to my arthritic pain and swelling. I want to know if the chemicals in the coating have caused me the ongoing arthritic injury. I want to know if those chemicals include any harmful [REDACTED] or PFA’S as I have been hearing more and more about. IOn December, 3 2024, I called Gourmia and a woman who identified herself as [REDACTED] told me that she didn’t know what chemicals were in it but a specialist from Gourmia will be calling me tomorrow.

The consumer indicates that she was using her air fryer and it gets extremely hot. She was opening its French doors to get something out of it . The door released and hit her arm and got burn. When door closed down she tried to hit her arm and then it hit her arm and it burned her.
The second time same thing but seemed to happened faster. Door ended up closing instead of locking in and burned her even worse than the first time.
She had a nurse roommate bandage her wounds. And it still not healing but was told to keep an eye on it. Would be helpful if they had a protective shield around the door so they do not get so hot.
The consumer states that she used her air fryer daily up until her injury and then approximately once per week after.
The consumer plan son keeping her air fryer for at least the next thirty days in case an investigation ensues.

I bought 2 Gourmia air fryers that badly sparked inside the air fryer during use. Then stopped working.
The first was purchased from Costco on 6/3/2022. We return that to Costco,.
The second was a replacement that was purchased 8/18/20/22. (I have the receipts)
Both were only used a few times. I was simply roasting vegetables both times.
The second time, I plugged into the surge protector for safety. I noticed that it shut off after the big sparks.
We just returned that in mid December. (I was sick, so I didn’t use it for a while. It remains in the packaging till recently.)

I was using the Gourmia Air Fryer Oven. I turned on the unit to air fry at 425 degrees, pressed start and waited for the unit to preheat. When the unit beeped I opened the French styled doors pushing them all the way open to lock them open. I inserted the air fry basket into position 3. The fry basket was half way in when I bumped the doors with the basket. This caused the doors to unlock and slam shut sticking the outer side of my right forearm. The door closing on my arm caused a third degree burn roughly 1/2cm wide and 4cm long.

Caller is reporting that the handle of the air fryer broke when she was pulling out the drawer and all the hot food content fell which could have caused burn injuries. (12/12)The manufacturer was contacted and they advised that they will provide a replacement, however, they were not concerns about the incident.
Caller stated that this air fryer is a safety hazard and should be addressed before someone is seriously injured.

We purchased an air fryer at bed bath and beyond on August 30, 2018. It is a Gourmia Digital 10 qt Air fryer, griller, and roaster in white at Bed Bath and beyond. on the Gourmia website it is listed as the Gourmia GTA2500 Electric Digital Air Fryer Griller and Roaster with Optimized Calorie Reduction Technology. These appliances usually have safety or failsafe mechanisms that shut them off when the lid is lifted. Since the heating element in the lid can achieve temperatures of 450 degrees Fahrenheit, there is a huge danger if it stays on when the lid is opened. The fryer was also powering on without being prompted and the heating element was on while the fan was not, which could start a fire if left unattended for any length of time. (for instance while one is sleeping) We can’t now, without concern, even move away from it unless its unplugged from the outlet. I believe the public should be warned before someone gets seriously hurt, or a serious fire occurs.

When we use the Gourmia GAF635 Air Fryer, the basket will sometimes come loose from the base, causing any grease in the base to fall to the counter and/or floor. This makes a mess and has caused minor burns from the splashing grease.
