  1. First aid

Made Jun 30, 2025, sent to the company Jul 3, 2025, published by CPSC Jul 18, 2025

The product, in the report: Designed as an evolutionary step in concealed fixed blade knives, Pentagon FX Covert is ideal for discreet carry. It features a double-edge CYRO S35VN full-tang steel blade, removable G10 handles and a minimalist GRN sheath compatible with SOG’s next-generation Universal Mounting System. A lot of innovation is in this small package. It’s modest in size, but big in capability. Part # 17-61-03-57

I ordered a SOG Pentagon FX Covert knife manufactured by GSM Outdoors (SOG Knives). When the product arrived, it was packaged with the blade fully exposed inside the box, not secured in its sheath or with any protective cover over the edge.

Excited to see my new knife, I opened the top of the box. I did not expect a live, razor-sharp blade to be loose inside the package. As I reached in, my finger made contact with the exposed blade and I suffered a significant laceration. The cut was deep enough to require medical treatment and caused me to lose time from work.

This injury occurred because of the unsafe way the knife was packaged and shipped. There was no warning indicating that the knife was loose or that an exposed blade was inside the box. I believe this creates a serious risk to consumers and that future injuries could happen if this packaging issue is not corrected.
