No one hurt Made Aug 4, 2015, sent to the company Sep 1, 2015, published by CPSC Sep 16, 2015
The product, in the report: Large Farberware serated kitchen knife with about 8” blade, plastic handle.! No model number found. Part of a set.!
Today about 3:00 PM 8/3/2015.
I was using a Farberware serated kitchen knife to slice off a section of watermellon and without warning the plastic knife handle snapped.
I was extremely fortunate my hands were in the clear when this happened.

While the knife set is old, it appears repeated exposure to dishwasher temps and soaps have caused the handle plastic to deteriorate.
I have not notified the manufacturer as of yet..
I was not able to find a model # or serial #. Knife was part of a set. Assume the rest in the set use same handle material.

Hospital admission Made Dec 26, 2014, sent to the company Jan 6, 2015, published by CPSC Jan 21, 2015
The product, in the report: FARBERWARE holiday kitchen paring knife with a 3.5 inch blade and a plastic handle
My son was opening the package for a kitchen knife. He injured his hand severely while removing the knife. He cut three tendons, one artery and one nerve. He required emergency surgery that evening.
The knife is in a plastic container which also contains a sheath for the knife. However, the knife is not in the sheath because the knife has a picture on it that I presume the manufacturer wants people to see through the plastic container. If the knife was in the sheath then consumers would not be able to see the picture on the knife. The plastic container is poorly designed. While pulling the knife out of the plastic container, the plastic container broke open exposing the blade, just as my son was pulling on it.
The knife is made by FARBERWARE in China.

No one hurt Made Jun 11, 2014, sent to the company Jun 18, 2014, published by CPSC Jul 2, 2014
The product, in the report: A stainless steel knife with a 5 inch blade and 5 inch black plastic handle.
While I was cutting cheese with the knife, it snapped at the point where the blade and the handle meet. This caused the blade to be forcefully ejected from the counter and cutting board, in this case harmlessly onto the floor. Upon inspection of the knife I discovered that its connection to the handle is about 1 cm by 1 mm thick. It would appear that this knife does not have enough strength to withstand cutting a block of cheddar cheese, which was my intention when I purchased it a week prior.

No one hurt Made Feb 20, 2013, sent to the company Mar 1, 2013, published by CPSC Mar 18, 2013
The product, in the report: 20piece farberware cutlery set. It comes with a knife holder (butcher block type) and plastic utensils.
Farberware needs to be investigated for selling dangerous items! I purchased a new 20 piece cutlery set and used it this morning. The butcher knife blade broke off and hit me in the chets, when I was trying to cut into an onion! I have kept everything, including the onion, which has a mere minimal cut! It was the first attempt of use. The blade just broke and flung upwards, hitting me in the chest! I would have died had I not had a lose sweater and cowl neck turtleneck. I tried to contact them all day. I was laughed at by a customer service worker, and I left a message for her supervisor, and they never called back! Thereafter, I did some research, and found that these knives have a concerning problem, and I want these knives recalled immediately, to stop any harm to others!

Emergency room Made Sep 26, 2011, sent to the company Oct 3, 2011, published by CPSC Oct 25, 2011
The product, in the report: Farberware Resin 8-Inch Chef Knife with Sheath, Red It is the same as this Amazon link, however, we did NOT purchase it from Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Farberware-Resin-8-Inch-Knife-Sheath/dp/B004ZJUMS2
Laceration of the hand while removing a Farberware knife from its protective sheath. Laceration required emergency room visit, stitches. Long term nerve and tendon damage is not know as of this writing.
Farberware knife sheath is defective and allows knife cutting edge to be exposed when completely inserted in sheath. Each side of the knife sheath has a decorative, non-functional, opening running the length of the sheath through which the knife is easily inserted. This leaves the cutting edge of the knife exposed and unprotected.
Addionally, the knife blade and sheath are identical colors so it is difficult to determine if knife is inserted completely into the sheath and protected, or exposed and unproteted.
