Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

The product, in the report: Cuisinart Classic 7pc Stainless Steel Hollow Handle Essentials Knife Block Set with Built in Sharpener Silver TCIN: 88202496

I purchased a knife set. I hand washed the knives prior to using. I only used one knife and I used it to cut through pineapple. After eating the pineapple I noticed that there were chunks of stainless steel missing from the knife, it was not like this prior to using.

The replacement model is fine but I would like an answer to my question about the safety of the flakes. Attached is a picture of the handles of two of the knives. I’m sure most of the paint or plastic or whatever it is came off in the dishwasher or sink but still I guess a safe disposal method would be to grind off the edge and tip and put them in the household garbage. We would be very happy to replace this item under the manufacturers warranty however, we are unfortunately not able to replace it with the exact same model. In its place we would like to offer a similar model (C55-01-12PCKS) as a replacement. Please take a look at this option and let me know if its OK to proceed with it as a suitable replacement for you (https://www.cuisinart.com/shopping/cutlery/advantage_sets/c55-01-12pcks/). I have noticed flakes of the color in food I was preparing and finally figured out it was coming from the knives. Are those flakes safe to ingest? Should I throw the knife set out? (I’m not even sure of a safe way to dispose of large knives like those.) Should I try sanding the handles and continue using them? I contacted Cuisinart about a set of knives that my wife bought a couple of years ago. They have a paint or plastic coating that is coming off of the handles and I have found flakes of the material in food I was preparing. They are going to replace the knife set but in my correspondence they would not answer my question on two attempts about the safety of ingesting the flakes.

The product, in the report: Paring Knife

I purchased a set of 3 kitchen knives. I only used one (appropriately) for about 2 weeks...hand-washing only...& discovered bits of the blade were missing. I can only assume they were ingested by my family! When I contacted the manufacturer, they consistently ignored the safety aspect of my complaint and only offered to send me a new knife.
