The product, in the report: 22 oz Jar (with lid) Yankee Candle- Parisian Holiday Brunch scent. 2642977

I use 22 oz Yankee Candle Jar candles nearly every day. I burn them for several hours at a time, I keep the wicks trimmed before each new burn, and away from other flammable things. I recently noticed that on the holiday candles (Santa Cookie and Parisian Holiday Brunch) that the wicks would develop large globs- unlick other fragrance of the candles I burn). On 1/15, I was alerted by my smoke alarm which was is about 7 ft from here I burn the candle in my living room. the room had filled with smoke, and flames were shooting out the top of the glass candle (the candle was near it’s end- and had about 1/4-1/3 inch wax remaining- normally, the candles have always just gone out when it got to this level. The jar was completely blacked out (this also hasn’t ever happened as they burn clear completely to the end). I have the candle saved if its needed. The candle became so hot that it melted the external label, which also has never happened. I did notice while burning this candle in particular that once solidified each time, there was a noticeably greater about of oily substance that would rise to the top. It’s unclear if the extra burn was from the bits of extra charred wick globs that had fell into the wax and hardened below the surface, or from the oil. The flames were approximately 4 inches above the top of the glass (9-10 inches from the wick at the bottom sine most the candle was already burned. My concern is that if this temperature had broken the glass- it could have sent flames out into the couch etc. and the fire wouldn’t have been contained. Separately, I do work for the US Fire Administration- and so this is of particular concern of mine beyond the safety in my own home.

The product, in the report: Yankee Candle

My daughter is allergic to Yankee Candle. Just walking in the mall by a store with the candles causes her face and throat to swell. I have contacted them to ask them for ingredients many times and even worked with the Attorney General of Massachusetts and Massachusetts General Hospital to ask for ingredients and they will not comply. I do have many emails to back this up. The candles do not even have to be lit to cause an issue. These must be harmful chemicals. The latest incident just happened again this past Saturday 10/ 19/19. We went to a store and we did not know that they carry so many of these candles. This industry does not seem to be regulated but needs to be.

The product, in the report: Candle

Caller stated that while his spouse was removing the lid from the candle the glass jar shattered. No injuries was sustained from the incident Caller contacted the company and was advised that since they used the lid to close the jar while the candle was still lit the heat caused the jar to expand which caused the incident.

Caller stated that he has used candle jars which was much thicker than this jar. He feels that this jar is a safety hazard and should be recalled.

The product, in the report: Yankee Candle Sparkling Cinnamon Tealight

I was using a Yankee Candle Sparkling Cinnamon tealight when someone at the party noticed the flame was about 6 inches above the edge of the candle holder. We put out the candle and no damage was done to my home. It wasn’t until I was packing up the Christmas decorations this morning that I realized the plastic container holding the candle had melted to the candle holder.

I’ve never had this problem before with this product and other candles from the same box burned safely. No other problems with other scents.

I don’t know if this is an aberration or you have similar reports. Figured I’d err on the side of safety.

The product, in the report: Yankee Candle large jar candle, Summer Scoop scent.

I purchased a large jar candle from Yankee Candle in May 2015. I used the candle in my living room on my brand new coffee table with a table runner under the candle. I trimmed the wick and used the “safe candle” instructions suggested by Yankee. I was cleaning the next day and i was dusting my coffee table and tried to remove the table runner and the candle from the table and the runner had melted to my table. The table runner was melted to the bottom of the candle as well. The candle was not melted the entire way down the candle, only about 2 inches, as i had only burned it for 3 or so hours the night before. The runner that was adhered to my table removed the finish in the perfect ring of the melted candle. I immediately contacted Yankee Candle by email to file a claim. They have responded with template after template that my claim is still being processed. I sent them the candle for their investigation. I also sent them pictures of the damage to my table. They are not concerned about the heat transference from the candle and possible fire risk to my home and the danger to my family. They will not respond with any solution. Consumers need to know the possible risk involved or they need to pull the candle. It was a large Summer Scoop candle purchased in the Cranberry Township, Pa store. I have all of the pictures of the candle and the damage.
