Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

  1. First aid

Made Feb 7, 2014, sent to the company Feb 19, 2014, published by CPSC Mar 6, 2014

The product, in the report: Vie Luxe, Madlives Votive Candle, Exotic Ceylon Tea, Delicate Heliothorpe & Lush Green Palm Leaves

We recently acquired a Vie luxe, “Maldives” votive candle. This candle is in a glass-like container. Within approximately 1 hour, the smoke alarm was going off and it was discovered that the candle wax/material was on fire. Initial attempts to blow out the candle were unsuccessful and resulted in severe burns on my hand, A second attempt to extinguish the candle with a wet towel were unsuccessful as the candle wax/material flamed back up when the wet towel was removed. A third attempt with the wet towel resulted in the fire finally being extinguished. If I had not been wearing a coat, it would have likely resulted in burns all over my arm front of my body. My hand was burned in several locations and my coat was destroyed. I contacted the manufacturer by email and telephone but received no response.
