The product, in the report: Fresh Decor scented candle purple-ish wax candle in a glass jar about 3 inches wide a 4 inches tall

I purchased a Safeway candle (store brand) that is a standard wax candle in a glass cup/jar about a year and a half ago.

Today, I finally burned down to the bottom of the candle, and there were severe safety problems.

I noticed a medium flame (not wick!) about two inches above the glass sides (~3 inches) that was producing a lot of smoke.

The candle was sitting on my counter near my kitchen sink, so I went t pick it up and drop it in the sink. I burned my fingers from the heat on the glass. I then used a dry towel to pick it up, and the glass sides separated from the base (cracked!).

Importantly, the heat from the candle slightly melted the poly coating on my counter and left a severe burn mark on the painted wood.
