Hurt, care not known Made Aug 5, 2026, sent to the company Aug 10, 2026, published by CPSC Aug 24, 2026
The product, in the report: Pink Pineapple Sunrise Scented Candle
Hello,
I contacted Bath & Body Works to report a serious incident involving one of your candles, which caught fire in my rented flat and nearly caused a house fire. The experience has been extremely distressing and has left me feeling quite traumatised.
Despite making several attempts to report the incident and seek support, I have found the response to my complaint disappointing. Communication has been limited, and I have not received any recent updates regarding the matter.
In addition to the distress caused, I have incurred a phone bill of 128.00 as a result of attempting to contact your customer service team. This is a significant and unexpected expense that I cannot afford.
I would appreciate an urgent update on my complaint, including confirmation that the incident is being properly investigated and consideration of the costs I have incurred while trying to raise this serious safety concern.
My sister, my friend and I were all sitting together in the living room with the candle burning under normal use when my friend suddenly said he could smell something strange. We looked over and saw that the candle had developed an excessively large, uncontrollable flame. The outside of the glass jar had become blackened, and the candle appeared to have caught alight rather than burning as intended. The flame was so large that it nearly caused a house fire. My friend acted quickly to extinguish the candle before the fire spread. In doing so, he burned his finger. Had he not noticed the unusual smell and reacted so quickly, I genuinely believe my home could have caught fire. I have attached a photograph showing the condition of the candle after the incident. As you can see, the glass is heavily blackened from the fire. This has been a very distressing experience, particularly as all three of us were in the room at the time. I am extremely concerned that a product intended for home use could fail in this way, and I would appreciate it if you could investigate this matter as a priority.

First aid Made Jun 18, 2026, sent to the company Jun 24, 2026, published by CPSC Jul 17, 2026
The product, in the report: It is a 3 wick candle from bath and body works. The fragrance is sea salt coast.
I have a bath and body works candle that I only burned twice. I was sitting down doing homework when I literally all of a sudden looked up directly at the candle on my counter. One side of glass cracked, the plastic on the candle was melting and wax was melting right onto my counter all while it was still fire burning. I then hurry and trip to extinguish with the candle top but it was not going out because of the large crack of the glass which caved in a bit so the fire just was not going out. I then took the top off and burned my fingers trying to remove the candle top. The pain was an immediate 10 I was jumping up in down because of burning myself on the top, so then I had no choice but to blow it to quickly get it extinguished since it was a fire hazard at that point.

Hurt, no treatment Made Apr 14, 2020, sent to the company Apr 22, 2020, published by CPSC May 6, 2020
The product, in the report: 3-wick scented Bath and Body Works Candle that was eucalyptus and spearmint scented “aromatherapy stress relief candle.” Bar code: 0667545117954 Another number found on the candle: 7214AGA7 Manufacturing address: 95 West Main St New Albany, Ohio 43054
We were using our candle as we normally would. Lit all 3 wicks and set it on the coffee table. We went to the kitchen to start cooking dinner and our smoke detector started to go off. We thought it was something in the kitchen, it wasn’t. The flame from the candle was about 3 inches higher than normal. It was a blue flame which is the hottest flame. My husband tried to blow on it to put it out and the flame grew higher to about 12 inches, one LARGE blue flame which singed his eyebrows and spread embers across the carpet.
We had to urgently decide to use fire safe gloves to move the candle outside because it would not go out and the flame was getting larger. After it was outside we poured water on the candle which put the flame out (thank god).
The candle had been burning about 25 minutes in total before this happened. We have used candles like this before, without this ever happening.
It seemed like there was a chemical in the wax that started to burn, but I’m not sure.
Very scary and could have been a full fledged fire.

The product, in the report: three wick candle in a glass. Scented Candle Made in USA Model burnt off but candle from same has numbers 30508419 Scented
A candle we purchased from Bath and Body works which was three wicks in a glass broke apart and burned the coffee table and black smoke marks up the wall. I walked into the room to find this occurring. I took photos and video and a picture of the label on the bottom of the adjacent (same candle) jar. This well could have burned our house down. The glass breaking on its own due to heat, I assume, is the cause of this fire. These candles should not be on the market. We have several of them. I reported this twice to Bath and Body works who replied on chat that someone would get back to me. No one did I finally got an email from them and sent them the photos and video and still did not hear from anyone. I am shocked as I regard this as an urgent matter. [REDACTED]

The product, in the report: Bath & Body Works 3-wick lavender candle
Last night, before going to bed, my husband went to blow out a Bath & Body Works candle on our bedside dresser. As he did so, flames shot up the wall and erupted into a fireball across the ceiling. I had just fallen asleep, so it was especially frightening to open my eyes and see nothing but flames above me. I’ve heard of this happening to quite a few others with this particular brand, but figured since we always followed proper precautions - keeping the wicks trimmed, the candle away from combustible objects, and only burned for a couple hours at a time - it wouldn’t happen to us. Sadly, I was wrong. We’ll be spending the weekend scrubbing soot and repainting. However, I’m so thankful that nobody was injured!

The product, in the report: Bath & Body Works 3-wick candle scented “Winter”
I lit a Bath & Body Works 3-wick candle scented “Winter” that was in a Bath & Body Works pumpkin sleeve candle holder around 8pm that was 2/3 previously burned. The wicks were at the appropriate height when lit. In the early hours (I do not know the exact time), our smoke detector went off. We rushed to where the smoke was billowing from to find a 2 foot blaze coming from the candle. My husband immediately opened our patio door and, in the rush of adrenaline, picked up the candle and put it outside. He threw a pot of water on it which fueled the fire. We then doused it with large box of baking soda. The glass candle was so hot that the glass melted into the candle holder. My husband sustained burns on 8 fingers. We have smoke damage to the main floor of our home.

The product, in the report: 3wick candle
I have been biting the 3wick candle about 1 hour. I walked away for about 2 minutes when I heard my car meowing and it sounded like something was sparking. I came into the living room and seen the candle had flames that were very high and it looked as if all three flames from the wicks combined. It was burning at a high rate I didn’t know what to do so I yelled for my wife. We tried the fire extinguisher it was having problems. The glass shattered and wax spilled. My wife ran outside and grabbed some dirt to throw on it which finally put it out. This was a very scary experience for us and we are glad is wasn’t worse than this.

The product, in the report: Bath and Body Works 3-wick Candle
I lit my 3-wick Bath and Body Works candle and started watching a movie with my children. About an hour later, I looked over and saw the candle flame was nearly a foot high. The entire candle container was full of flames. I had the candle in a Bath and Body Works metal holder. After a few unsuccessful attempts to extinguish the candle, I panicked-- thinking about the candle catching my house on fire and putting my family’s safety at risk. I grabbed two oven mitts, and tried to move the candle, which caused it to get worse. This caused me to panic even more, and I picked up the candle, lost control, dropping it on the floor. The candle shattered, wax splattered all over my kitchen floor, cabinets, and my feet. But it did nearly extinguish the flame. I was able to get the remainder of the fire extinguisher, but it caused significant damage to the linoleum floor in my kitchen. The glass that was the candle was completely black. I have no idea what would cause the candle to do this. There was no draft, no flammable items nearby, but this terrified me.

The product, in the report: Medium Candle Evergreen Scented size 6.3 oz/180g. Candle burns approximately 30-40 hours and measure 3”widex4”tall
While I was at work my wife [REDACTED] light a medium Evergreen scented candle which was purchased at Bath and Body Works in Alexandria Louisiana. My wife said the fire alarm located outside the guess bathroom alerted her to either smoke or fire somewhere in the vicinity . My wife also stated she was frying bacon and the smoke alarm may of alerted her to smokey conditions. While approaching the fire alarm she noticed the candle located on the bathroom window sell was on fire and as she described it the flame was approximately six to eight inches above the container where the candle was contained. Note: My wife also explained the candle had been burning approximately two hours. As stated by her, her first reaction was to grab a a cloth located on the sink of the bathroom and carry the burning candle to a safe location outside of the house so the house would not burn down. As she was carrying the candle toward the front door and approximately four feet from the front door the glass container exploded causing hot wax to be deployed over her right and left arms and hands. We consulted a Doctor on the following day who’s medical opinion she had received first and second degree burns.

The product, in the report: Aromatherapy 3-Wick Candle EUCALYPTUS SPEARMINT Made using the highest concentration of fragrance oils and an exclusive blend of vegetable wax and lead-free wicks, the wax melts consistently & evenly, radiating enough fragrance to fill an entire room. Our 3-Wick Candle burns approximately 25 - 45 hours and measures 4” wide x 3 1/2” tall.
We were in our home and had a candle burning for about 45 minutes when we heard a loud ‘bang’ from the kitchen, location of the candle. We went to investigate to only discover out countertop was on fire in 3 spots. The candle had exploded and sent shards of glass all over the room and we had to put the fire out quickly. The fire caused irreparable damage to our countertop. This is a HUGE safety concern. If we hadn’t responded within seconds or god forbid had we been showering, taking the trash out, or any other activity causing us to be away longer than seconds, our entire apartment would have went down in flames. We were just charged $350 to replace the countertop at our apartment due to the damage this candle caused. The candle was not previously cracked as we had burned it before, and there was nothing even remotely close to the candle to spark the fire or cause the explosion. We could have easily lost our lives that evening, and now to add more stress to us, we are paying for the damage caused by this candle and not any mishandling we had part in at all. This is not ok. We are completely mortified that this product exists and billions of consumers are blindly able to purchase it and believe the candle is safe to burn.

I lit a Bath and Body 3 wick candle and after 15-20 minutes the candle flame had gotten out of control and was burning several inches above the glass container. It was getting dangerous so I tried several times to blow the candle out but the flame just got larger and it actually started to spark and pop. I called my husband to try to get the candle out and he tried several time to blow it out with no success. He went to pick the candle up to carry it outside and the candle sparked and popped and the glass container exploded causing the hot wax and flame to burn my husband. When the flame burnt him my husband threw the candle onto the floor. My husband received severe 2nd degree burns on his left hand.

The product, in the report: Product involved was a Bath & Body Works “TIS THE SEASON” 14.5 oz candle made in Canada. Serial # 0667533527833
My fire department was dispatched for a possible kitchen fire, arrived to find the occupant outside, occupant stated that she was cooking lunch and had a candle going in the kitchen, candle was going for around an hour. Occupant stated that when she turned around the candle had approx. 3 foot flames coming from it, occupant stated that when they tried to put the fire out with a glass of water the glass holder exploded and the flames did not go out. I went inside to investigate and found the base of the candle still burning with the high flames, first attempt with a small glass of water did not extinguish the fire, a second glass did. Doing research on this product there has been recalls in the past for “high flames”.

The product, in the report: 3 wick BATH AND BODY candle purchased from the BATH AND BODY store in Rockwall TX approximately last month. Scent peach Bellini NO WARNING THAT THIS COULD HAPPEN ON THEIR LABEL
I distinguished a 3 wick bath and body candle by placing the lid that was sold with the candle and it caused a vacuum tight seal so that when I opened the candle up using my hands the glass broke in my hands. I have reported this problem before approximately a year ago to the bath and body corporate customer service number listed and these candles are still being sold like this. Imploding glass in a customers hands is a very dangerous thing not to mention if it is dropped while pressurized the damage that it could cause.

The product, in the report: Mini candles encased in plastic
Bath and Body Works sells miniature candles encased in plastic. On 11/13/2011 about 12 pm I lit the candle. Now, I take some responsibility for not trimming the wick which had become bulging, possibly causing a larger flame. However, the encasement in plastic may be a safety hazard. Slowly over an hour or so without realizing it, the candle melted the plastic down and causing possible toxic fumes. It could have caused a fire if I hadn’t encased it in metal holder.
