  1. No one hurt

Made Sep 9, 2026, sent to the company Sep 14, 2026, published by CPSC Sep 28, 2026

The product, in the report: Anthropologie brand candle purchased at Nordstrom. Sparkling Grapefruit scent, 3 wick, glass container. Had been burned once before

On Friday, September 4, I lit an Anthropologie candle that I placed in the middle of our coffee table. I walked into the backyard to get something and my husband had walked onto the front porch to do something else. He said that he heard an odd crackling noise and looked into the living room. He saw that there was an orange glow in the room and there were flames coming from the coffee table. He immediately started screaming for me and I ran into the house. I saw that the coffee table was on fire and could see the broken glass and melted wax all over the table and dripping onto the carpet. I screamed for my husband and he came running into the room with a sopping wet towel and proceeded to throw it onto the flames. The flames were extinguished, but there were still embers from the books and basket of family photos that had been on the table. We were able to carry the top of the table onto the brick front porch, which seemed safer than having it inside of our 100+ year old home. I had a fire extinguisher in my hands, but we determined that the wet towel had done a good enough job. We were able to soak everything outside with a hose and at that point, we felt safe. There were ashes all over the carpet and 3 sofas and of course the house smelled of smoke.

The product, in the report: Anthropology candle, in a glass jar

I am reporting a serious product safety incident involving a Capri Blue Woody Fir & Firewood Glass Candle, purchased from Anthropologie.

While the candle was burning under normal, recommended conditions, the glass container cracked open, causing hot wax to spill out. The spilled wax damaged my coffee table and silk tablecloth, and if I had not been in the room at the time, it could have resulted in a fire.

This was a replacement candle. My original order arrived broken and was returned, which raises concern about a possible manufacturing or container defect. This is the second candle from this order that failed.

The product, in the report: Anthropologie gold scented candle. Sku number 40071649 purchased approximately November 2016

Candle purchased at Anthropologie during November 2016 exploded last night on my kitchen counter. I was in the front of our home when I heard a loud pop and went in search of the noise. The glass had exploded and the wax was still on fire on the counter. I moved quickly to blow out the fire. No damage to granite countertops but glass pieces went everywhere. So thankful I was in downstairs to hear the pop. I have photos of the product.

The product, in the report: Baltic Amber Voluspa Candle

Anthropologie voluspa -a pricey candle with textured apparently thin glass- combusted and cracked in several spots causing a big hole to blow out the side.. It burned my $10k {REDACTED] table that went up in flames. I had fallen asleep on 4/25/15 around approximately 10:15 PM EST.. I had woken my self up to go up to bed or Else I would have fallen asleep for the night and risked my life to burning in a fire. I tiredly walked around the corner in my entry way with 30ft high ceilings..the table top was projecting 3 ft high flames.. I have a sprinkler system in my home which had not gone off but fire alarms if had gone off would sounded after the back wall leading upstairs would have already been on fire. I threw water on it without time to grab an extinguisher in panic.. That candle combusted!! I am a huge fan of candles abd have owned hundreds! This has never happened- anthropologies amber textured glass was the cause of this overpriced candle with cheap glass. My home does not smell like baltic amber but of a horrible burning chemocal smell. Im left with a ruined $10000 customized charred {REDACTED] table.. Im furious. When calling anthropologie to report incident they said the store district mgr from where i purchased in RI would call me back.. I requested corporate compliance and legal..
