I purchased a YIELD x Black Dahlia Balance Candle (scent Hinoki) from Anthropologie in March. On the evening of Tuesday, April 21, I had the candle lit on my bedroom dresser. It had been burning for a few hours at the time of the incident. At one point I looked over and uncontrolled flames were shooting 6” out of the candle. The wax of the candle had caught fire. I frantically tried to blow out the flames, and on the second try was able to extinguish the candle, which in effect lead to facial burns. I am thankful that the candle didn’t lead to a more extensive fire. We left the candle in the sink overnight and then threw it out so I no longer have the defective candle. At the time I was much more concerned with my injuries than the product, though I wish we had at least taken a picture as evidence of the incident. Unfortunately I singed my eyelashes, eyebrow, and suffered 2nd degree burns to my face and eye as confirmed by my dermatologist and PCP last week. To make matters worse by Saturday the wounds became infected. I had to visit the ER, and have since been in consultation with burn specialists, ophthalmologists, and dermatologists.

I am reporting this candle to emphasize my genuine concern in the safety of the product. Other customers should be aware of the serious risks associated with use and I feel a responsibility to share my story. I am seriously requesting a full investigation of this product.
