The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

The product, in the report: a 12” glass covered aluminum sauté pan with helper handle

About two months ago, we received a gift of a Oster Clairborne 12” Aluminum [Glass] Covered Saute Pan Charcoal Grey With Helper Handle -- we believe it was manufactured by the Gibson Company, part of the Jardin Company. My 84 year old wife had used it perhaps two or three times until July 2, 2014 ... She was alone at home [I was shopping], in our kitchen, preparing a meal in the Pan which was on our range top ... While holding the Pan’s handle in her hand and looking through the [glass] Cover, there was suddenly was a sound of an “EXPLOSION” and the Cover’s glass “SHATTERED” into hundreds of shrapnel-like glass shards ... Many tiny shards punctured her arms and legs, but luckily not her face -- and the Cover’s small plastic handle, blew upwards and landed in my wife’s hair ... She was “frozen” in place, afraid to move in stocking feet through hundreds of pieces of glass shards on the floor ... Fortunitely, no one else was in the kitchen with her so there was no more severe hurt and the TRAUMA of the EXPLOSION could have resulted in a heart attack or stroke but gratefully didn’t ... She worked laboriously and carefully to clean up the glass all over the kitchen counter tops, the range and floor ... My daughter came, gave 1st aid to remove tiny shards from my wifes body; there were no cuts still bleeding ... She went to her doctor by week-end to check her blood pressure; she remains afraid to be cooking in the kitchen ...
