The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

  1. No one hurt

Made Jan 20, 2022, sent to the company Jan 24, 2022, published by CPSC Feb 7, 2022

The product, in the report: It is the LID for a 4-Quart Kirkland Signature pot. Marking on the bottom of the associated pan are: 1119345 Professional Quality 3.7L / 4 US QT / PTES Kirkland Signature 001048 NSF 00020T Made in Thailand

On January 13, 2022, at approximately 6:15 pm I was about to finish up making a batch of homemade spaghetti sauce. I was using a 4-quart Kirkland Signature series pot (model no. 1119345?) and had it on the stovetop over a low simmer - the sauce had been simmering for approximately 3 hours. As I walked into our home’s kitchen to turn the stovetop’s gas burner off and remove the bay leaves from the sauce, I noticed that the lid for the pot had shattered and that there were pieces of glass were found sitting on top of the spiderweb-cracked lid, on the stovetop, and below the lid in the spaghetti sauce. No one heard any noise from the adjacent living room to indicate anything had happened with the cookware.

There are no injuries to report from this incident; but, the introduction of shattered glass into a food product is alarming. I saw where a previous recall was issued for a similar Kirkland pot lid (Recall No. 13-708).

I was cooking and the owner of the product. This product was purchased by me from Costco within the past two years; but, I am unable to locate the online receipt from Costco for anything purchased more than s year ago to know exactly when it was purchased.

The product, in the report: Kirkland Signature 6 QT Hard Anodized Aluminum Deep Saute pan with glass lid

I bought item #275313, the 6 QT Hard Anodized Aluminum Deep Saute pan on Friday 09/07/12 at Costco’s Colchester VT warehouse. I then made a big batch of soup in it. I did not use the lid until I had taken the pot off the stove and let it cool for about 1/2 hour. It then sat there cooling for another hour or two; I then washed the pan and lid and put them in my dish drainer on my kitchen counter. About an hour later the lid literally exploded and glass went everywhere in my kitchen. Even my husband, who was downstairs in the basement with the door closed, heard it. Fortunately, although I was in the kitchen at the time, I was on the other side of the room with my back turned.

    This is Costco’s response:

I am so sorry that this happened. I have not heard of any other incidents regarding the saute pan. We appreciate your feedback and have forwarded your email to the buyers for further review and consideration.
