The product, in the report: M-Cuisine Microwave Rice and Grain Cooker
I purchased a Josephjoseph.com M-Cuisine Microwave rice and grain cooker this summer. While cooking whole grain rice in my microwave, the unit melted down and made acrid smoke after about 10 minutes.
The instructions instruct to add 1/3 cup of rice and 150 ml of water. We then noticed that a small additional piece of paper had been added to the box. This paper had “Updated cooking instructions for whole grain rice only”. The updated instructions instruct using 450 ml of water for 1/3 cup of rice, a tripling of the amount of water.
I called the company to discuss with them. I asked why the units had not been recalled; they indicated that this was considered but rejected.
I am concerned that someone will have a serious fire due to using this unit according to the included instructions.
