The product, in the report: Rio 10” ceramic frying pan in black
I recently purchased a 10 inch “Rio” ceramic frying pan made by GreenPan. From the first use, I noticed a very toxic smell that resembled formaldehyde. I was using the pan over medium heat on a gas range to cook eggs. My suspicion was that the plastic handle was not created to handle the heat that can be created on a gas range. No portion of the flame ever touched the handle. I called the company to ask if the pan was suitable for use on a gas range. They would not answer the question. Packaging information does not preclude use on a gas range. The smell is so toxic and overwhelming, I had to discontinue use of the pan. No serious injuries occurred, but I fear that long-term use of this pan over a gas range could result in the same deleterious effects of smelling burning plastic for extended periods. This product should change handle composition OR state not for use on gas range.
