The product, in the report: Glass storage container. It is used for cooking food in oven or microwave. Has resealable lid for putting food in refrigerator or freezer.

Hello, I purchased a set of glass storage containers from Glasslock. The name of the product is “Oven Safe”. It is advertised as oven and microwave safe. However while using it to microwave rice when the glass container shattered. I contacted Glasslock and informed them as to what a happened. I provided them with photos of the broken container.

I checked [REDACTED] reviews of the product to find this has been occurring for years. There are many positive reviews of this product but I believe the number of one star [REDACTED] reviews shows a pattern of these containers exploding into sharp pieces in the microwave. Many of the reviews have photos that look just like the ones I took. I put in a link below to the reviews.

There are also reviews stating that the glass unexpectedly shards and glass ends up in the food. One person stated that they contacted Glasslock about this and that the company would not replace the item. These glass shards are a different issue from the microwave problem.

I discovered that the model of container I purchased is made by Glasslock Europe. However the American version that is sold on[REDACTED] and other retailers has the same safety issue’s as the European one.

Glasslock did not acknowledge if they have heard of this happening before. I don’t know how they could not have heard of it when it was so easy for me to find reports. These products should not be listed as microwave safe.

I can provide photos if it would help.

    Thank You [REDACTED]

The product, in the report: 8” x 6” x 3” glass storage container with plastic snap-on lid, part of a set of 9 containers with lids.

Here is a copy of the letter I sent to Glasslock USA: [REDACTED] December 30, 2014 Glasslock USA 5820 Bickett St. Huntington Park, CA 90255

    Dear Gentlepersons:

I received as a Christmas gift last week an 18 piece set of Glasslock storage containers made in Korea and distributed by True Source Products Inc. We used the large container to store pot roast slices with gravy in the refrigerator (not in the freezer). Last evening (12/29/14) I removed the container from the refrigerator and placed it on the kitchen counter for a little over 30 minutes and then removed the contents to a pan. I took the container to the sink and ran some barely tepid water into it. As I held it, the glass container shattered into dozens of pieces in my hand, cutting my index finger. If the water had been hot or even somewhat warm, I could conceive of a glass dish possibly cracking. But the glass container was almost room temperature and the water barely warm. If the product had been manufactured properly, this should not have happened. It is obvious to me that this product is defective.

I have retained the shattered pieces and took photographs of the shattered product and injury. I can’t imagine that there aren’t other consumers who have had a similar experience with this product. I think the proper thing for you to do is to issue a recall of the product and review your manufacturing process.

Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to hearing what action your company plans to take regarding this product.

    Sincerely,

    [REDACTED]

The product, in the report: Glasslock circular glass tupperware with clear circular plastic lid that has four plastic hinges that “snap” into place over the bottom glass portion of the tupperware. http://www.casa.com/p/glasslock-oven-safe-round-506343

We had stored some roasted vegetables in a Glasslock kitchen glass tupperware. While chewing a bite of the vegetables I cut my tongue badly and after spitting out what was in my mouth found a 1 inch very sharp glass shard. After examining the edge of the tupperware, we found a large linear chip where the glass shard had broken off.
