Hurt, no treatment Made Jul 9, 2015, sent to the company Jul 17, 2015, published by CPSC Aug 7, 2015
The product, in the report: Duralex nesting bowls
I had mixed breakfast casserole ingredients in my largest duralex bowl, transferred the mix into a baking dish then washed my bowl. As I was rinsing the soap out of the bowl it EXPLODED in my hands! It sounded like a firecracker went off next to me, shooting fine shards of glass clear into the dining room. It cut my arm, and fine shards of glass were in my fingers, neck, etc. I cut my feet trying to find a clear course out of the kitchen. There were thousands of small pieces of glass throughout my kitchen and dining area. The water was hot, but not that hot and I had not cooked in the bowl nor did it go in the microwave. I am afraid to use my other bowls made by this company, I would have thought if the bowl was compromised it would have cracked, but not explode!

The product, in the report: Glass prep bowl
I was putting a Duralex glass bowl into my cabinet and it literally exploded - like it was a bomb. The glass explosion cut my leg.

No one hurt Made Sep 11, 2013, sent to the company Sep 19, 2013, published by CPSC Oct 28, 2013
The product, in the report: Duralex Glass Bowl (7” bowl)
A glass Duralex bowl exploded in my face after removing it from the microwave for two and a half minutes. I am absolutely shocked that I was not injured. I microwaved food from dinner the night before for two and a half minutes, took it out, set the bowl down on my kitchen island, sat down, bent in towards the bowl to take a hot bite of food when the bowl EXPLODED!! It sounded like a fire cracker my face. It was loud. Literally thousands of pieces of glass covered by kitchen and family room. Hundreds of pieces were the size of a grain of salt. It took me well over an hour to clean the grout, floors, bar stools, etc. Please investigate this further. I filed a complaint with the company. When I Googled “exploding Duralex bowl” I was upset to see that this has happened to many people before me. Someone could get very seriously injured. I beg you to look into this matter. Thank you.

First aid Made Jan 12, 2013, sent to the company Jan 24, 2013, published by CPSC Feb 14, 2013
The product, in the report: Duralex glass bowls
My wife was melting butter in a small Duralex glass bowl. She put the bowl in the microwave for 30 seconds. When she opened the microwave, she reached up to grab the bowl and it exploded into a thousand tiny pieces. She has a few cuts on her face from this because the microwave was above our range and it exploded at eye level. It could have been much worse so we are thankful it did not hit her eyes.
We have used these bowls for several years and not had any issues. In researching this on the Internet, it appears that many people have had this happen and the bowls spontaneously explode. I saw several comments from people where the bowls exploded just sitting in their cabinets.
How in the world these products can still be sold is beyond me. This is an extreme danger to anyone using them.
