Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

Some of the glass flew into the air landing on the stove and the floor.

Made Aug 29, 2012, sent to the company Sep 6, 2012, published by CPSC Sep 27, 2012

The product, in the report: Calphalon saute pan with glass lid “Unison Sear 6 qt 5.6 L 5006” inscribed on bottom of pan

Last Saturday, the glass lid to our Calphalon saute pan spontaneously shattered. I was in the kitchen washing dishes when I heard a sudden “bang!” coming from the direction of the fridge. When I investigated, I found the shattered lid. The pan and lid sit on top of the fridge with other large pots, but nothing had fallen off of the other pots. There is only ceiling above the lid, so nothing fell from there. I felt the top of the fridge to see if it was hot or cold, but it was room temperature. I have no idea why this lid suddenly shattered. Thank goodness the glass was tempered and stayed mostly intact after shattering. No one was hurt. We cleaned up the glass. The following information is inscribed on the bottom of the pan: “Unison Sear 6 qt 5.6 L 5006.” We received the pan as a gift in January, 2012, which was shipped to us directly.

I called Calphalon this morning and requested a replacement lid, which they are providing. I asked if they had an explanation for the shattering and the rep suggested that perhaps I had dropped it. I do not remember dropping this lid. Am I the first person to have this problem?

The product, in the report: Stainless steel Tri-Ply 12 inch stir fry pan with metal-rimmed glass fitted lid. bottom of the pan: Model 155 Serial number: 0513810

I bought a Calphalon Tri-Ply Stainless Steel 12” Stir Fry Pan about 1 year ago. We use it almost every day. One night last week, using it on medium heat on gas range, just as normal, the glass lid suddenly exploded with a huge bang, sending tiny glass shards all over stove, the food, the kitchen floor. Luckily no one was injured.
