No incident, no one hurt Made Jan 27, 2026, sent to the company Jan 30, 2026, published by CPSC Feb 18, 2026
The product, in the report: Product Name: IKEA MIDDAGSMAT Saucepan with lid (505.805.96) Color: Stainless Steel/ Black Size: 1.1 qt Dimensions: 30 cm x 12 cm
The IKEA MIDDAGSMAT Saucepan with lid (505.805.96) has a plastic handle piece that almost caught fire on a gas stove. The product description specifically states “works well on all types of cooktops” and “suitable for use on gas cooktops.” However, upon smelling a burning smell while cooking on a gas top, I looked under the saucepan to see active melting, black soot, plastic cracking, and a handle nearly on fire.
I was using the saucepan to boil water on a gas stove. I did not get injured.
Injuries can absolutely occur - high risk of fire.

No one hurt Made Jan 10, 2012, sent to the company Feb 17, 2012, published by CPSC Mar 5, 2012
The product, in the report: IKEA Kavalkad aluminum frying pans, set of 2, 8” and 10”. http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/40139321/
When I first used the 8” frying pan on my gas stove, I noticed a burning smell, followed by smoke emanating from the handle. On closer examination, I saw that the piece connecting the handle to the pan appeared to be a piece of plastic with metallic paint on it, and either the paint or the plastic was burning/melting due to the heat of the stove. I immediately stopped using it. Later on, I tried the 10” pan, hoping that because it was larger and the handle would be further from the heat source, it would be usable. While it did not produce smoke, it did produce a burning smell.
No observable injuries were sustained, but there is the potential for health risks due to inhalation of the fumes produced, and possibly the potential of a fire.
