The product, in the report: Essential Home 3-Piece Red Fry Pan Item # 04855242679

The submitter’s daughter was making scrambled eggs and after a few minutes the smoke alarm went off. The submitter said there wasn’t smoke but she smelled a chemical and burn odor. The submitter checked the eggs and noticed they were burning but the fire was on low heat. The submitter discarded the eggs and placed the pan in the sink. The submitter then noticed that the red paint on bottom of the pan was burning off. The submitter indicated that this was the first time the pan was used and it was the smallest pan of the set.

She then checked the biggest pan of the set which she used on August 4 and she noticed that the paint on the bottom had come off. The submitter contacted the retailer who she said is the importer of the product and informed them of the incident. She was told that she could return the pans and obtain a refund, which she did. She was also offered a 10% discount which she refused. The submitter believes the firm did not address the safety hazard with concern and she believes the pans should be recalled.
