Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

J.C. Penny’s 2.5qt stainless steel sauce pan/pot was being used to make rice. Suddenly, with no warning, one of the metal disks covering the end of a rivet in the pot popped off hit my girlfriend’s face at a relatively high speed (the rivets are used to affix the handle to the pot body). The rivet cover disk was very hot. No serious injury occurred, but there was redness on the skin where the disk impacted and pain associated with the event. This event seems similar to recall numbers [REDACTED] and [REDACTED].

I have a pan from Cooks by JCPenney Home Collection. It is stainless steel with a copper bottom. I was cooking with it last night and heard a very loud popping noise, similar to a gunshot. I was temporarily deaf in one ear and very startled, but the brass bottom of my pan blew/bubbled/popped out. I have used this pan many times before and have never seen or heard anything like this in my life.
