The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

The product, in the report: Hot handle mitt supplied with a Lodge Cast Iron Fajita Set

My husband cooked breakfast and used the hot handle mitt that came with the Lodge Cast Iron Fajita Skillet Set while handling the cast iron skillet. When he was done with the mitt, he placed it in the drawer where we keep mitts. Shortly after eating, we noticed smoke and a strong chemical smell. We traced it back to the mitt drawer where the handle mitt had SELF IGNITED and burned 1/4 way down and caught other mitts and the wooden drawer bottom on fire. Thankfully, when we found it, the fire was no longer active and the mitt was just smoldering and letting off smoke. This is a very dangerous product as a mitt designed to handle HOT CAST IRON should NOT self ignite.
