Seen by a doctor or nurse Made Dec 22, 2019, sent to the company Jan 10, 2020, published by CPSC Feb 3, 2020
The product, in the report: Silver and black plastic soda stream. Clear plastic bottle with black bottom and black lid.
Today I was pressing the button on my soda stream and suddenly it exploded into my face, cut, bruised , possibly fractured two fingers , small cut on my neck, it rocketed to the ceiling and shards of sharp plastic flew everywhere. The pressure was so strong from the bottom of the bottle exploding the entire thing shattered and hurt my fingers. Nearly went into my eye, luckily that did not happen. This was extremely scary and my hand is in a lot of pain. I can’t imagine what could have happened if it was my 11 yr old that was using it on this particular day.

No one hurt Made Oct 11, 2018, sent to the company Nov 8, 2018, published by CPSC Dec 3, 2018
The product, in the report: SodaStream Carbonation system
While charging my SodaStream (home carbonation machine) this evening, the bottle and machine blew up without warning. The bottom blew out of the SodaStream bottle being filled, and pieces of the machine flew out across the kitchen. I presume the machine over charged the bottle before “buzzing” any warning, and I did not receive the typical “buzz, buzz, buzz” the machine is supposed to give to indicate charging was complete. I noticed the bottle I was using has an expiration date, and it says not to use past the date (it doesn’t say why). To be honest, I hadn’t noticed the expiration date (or at least had forgotten about it if I had), so perhaps using an out-dated bottle was my bad. Who knew bottles could age in a kitchen cabinet! I don’t know if that is the reason it exploded, or if other fail safes failed). My machine and bottles have been in storage since 2016, and I’ve only recently pull them out for use again. My plastic bottles and C02 were stored in my kitchen cabinet, the machine stored in a shelf in my garage. I’ve been using the machine all summer. I notice the past half dozen fills were slow to buzz, but I assumed it was because I was running low on Co2. I’m really clueless to what happened, but thankful I was not hurt by the debris, only startled; sad that my machine is now toast. If the explosion was due to the bottle, might I suggest SodaStream place a clear warning such as “Bottles used past the expiration date have an increased risk of bodily injury.” But really, should there be a risk at all? No one hurt Made Jan 28, 2018, sent to the company May 4, 2018, published by CPSC May 25, 2018
The product, in the report: Sodastream co2 dispenser and bottle
Using my Sodastream that I’ve had and been using for 8 years. I was filling a bottle with Co2, the bottle was a little hard to release, I though it was because I had just changed the co2 cartridge, the bottle and Sodastream exploded. Plastic and metal went all over and destroyed the machine and traumatized my dogs.
I’ve reached out to Sodastream awaiting their response.
I can send photos if needed.

First aid Made Feb 22, 2017, sent to the company Mar 3, 2017, published by CPSC Mar 24, 2017
The product, in the report: Soda Stream system with new bottle
I have been using the Soda Stream system for 3 years now. I recently bought 2 new Soda Stream bottles from Target. I had put the required amount of water in the bottle and attached it to the Soda Stream machine. I pumped it 2.5 times and suddenly it exploded. Shards of plastic went everywhere in my kitchen, It cut my hand in several places and the sound was so loud that I lost temporary hearing in my right ear. It was INCREDIBLY scary. I have used this system for years and it has been great. Now I am petrified to try it again.

The product, in the report: SodaStream Splash Play - carbonated water maker https://www.sodastreamusa.com/Play-Starter-Kit-P591.aspx
I was using the SodaStream - I believe it is the Splash Play model - to charge my water. Normally, after pressing the button to charge the water, 3 loud buzzes are heard, and the water is charged. I was pressing the button to release the CO2, and suddenly, the top of the machine flew off and a brass piece flew out of the machine, just missing my eye. I contacted the company, but have not resolved anything with them yet. I tried submitting a review of this product on their website, but they would not publish it, stating my review “did not meet publishing guidelines.”

Emergency room Made May 27, 2016, sent to the company Jun 7, 2016, published by CPSC Jun 28, 2016
The product, in the report: Soda Stream Genesis. The product is designed to carbonate water. Is is approximately 15 inches x 8 inches x 11 inches in size. Sodastream Gensis Model G100 Serial number 13664
I had owned the machine for about 8 months and had used it many times without incident. On this occasion, I pumped the machine as stated in the instructions 3 times but it did not buzz as it had in the past. I pumped it two more time and it still did not buzz. I started to remove the bottle as per the instructions and it exploded like a bomb severing my dominant right hand between the thumb and forefinger. The gash was so deep and open that you could see down to the bone. Shards of the thick plastic bottle went flying a significant distance and I was very lucky that my 10 year old daughter standing a few feet away was not injured. My husband who was in the room at the time rushed me to the ER. Due to the severe trauma to the bone and tissue, I was told that emergency surgery needed to be performed within the next two days so as to not lose use of my hand or thumb. Soda stream refuses to take responsibility for the malfunction of the machine.

The product, in the report: Soda Stream Source Machine (at home carbonation device)
On June 24th, 2014 I attempted to use the Soda Stream Source Machine for the first time. It was fresh out of the box and I followed all instructions perfectly. The machine blew up in my hand and caused a high impact contusion and severe nerve damage that led to dystrophy of my left hand nerves. I have prepared to file a law suit against the company and would like to offer the opportunity to anyone who is interested to join me in a class action suit. Please contact [REDACTED]

First aid Made Dec 30, 2014, sent to the company Jan 8, 2015, published by CPSC Jan 23, 2015
The product, in the report: Sodastream drink maker
I was using our Sodastream to make seltzer water as I have done for more than a year. After pushing the carbonation button twice, the bottom blew out of the plastic bottle with such force that the top of the unit exploded and sent metal and plastic parts more than 30 feet in all directions. Some of the parts made a hole in the ceiling. Two of my fingers were cut and bruised, but I am just happy that my face and eyes were not hit by the parts.
This could have easily killed someone - it is a DANGEROUS product. I believe that the plastic bottles break down over time (I did not wash them in the dishwasher). I always use Sodastream CO2 cartridges.
I sent an email to Sodastream on 12/27/2014, but they have not responded. I have seen similar posts on this site and others explaining the exact same incident.
