Made Nov 8, 2013, sent to the company Nov 18, 2013, published by CPSC Dec 3, 2013

The product, in the report: colander

Kitchen collection is selling a set of mesh colander which deteriorate, causing minute bits of metal enter strained foods. Please see email for products details. Used strainers one or two times to sieve baking ingredients when my daughter-in-law and I noticed the damaged mesh.

Order number [REDACTED] SKU 01040563 Style 02755 Kitchen Collection set of 2 mesh colanders at 9.99 Plus shipping I purchased these colanders for the express purpose of sifting baking ingredients. They are not suited for this or any other food related purpose. I see that this item is still listed for sale on the website. http://www.kitchencollection.com/Temp_Products.cfm?sku=01040563&RankThis=Y&Searched=colander&

Please note that this merchandise is defective, should be withdrawn from offering for sale, and should no longer be sold. Not only did the wires begin to disintegrate after only one or two uses, but the fine mesh wires break into small, almost undetectable metal pieces which are easily combined with the food being used. Advertised stainless steel 18/10 never rust is discolored and flimsy, mesh does not even fit the outer band correctly.

Not only are these items poorly made, but in comparison with similar dollar store strainers, which I have owned and used without incident for 15 or more years, would be overpriced if not defective.
