The product, in the report: Magnetic Microwave Cover for Food | Clear Microwave Splatter Cover | Microwave Plate Cover with Steam Vents | Food Grade Dish Cover | BPA-Free | Dishwasher Safe | Black
Using a plastic cover designed to cover dishes in a microwave. The cover has 4 magnets on top of cover so as to leave inside microwave attached to top of inside compartment when not in use. Approximately 5 seconds into a heating cycle sparks flew and would have caught the microwave on fire had somebody not been there to shut the microwave off. One of the magnets had melted exposing two wires that were sparking and flaming in the microwave.

The product, in the report: It is clear plastic, 11 inches in diameter with 4 microwave safe polymer encased magnets to adhere to the inside top of the microwave for storage when not in use.
I was reheating coffee in a glass container with a Hover Cover ( brand name) in the microwave. The Hover Cover is microwave safe and can be used to cover product as you are reheating it, so it doesn’t splatter. The product also states that it is good for up to 10 minutes of continued use in a microwave. ( I had set the timer for 2 1/2 minutes and left the kitchen) I reentered the kitchen after about 2 minutes of reheating and found the kitchen engulfed in thick, black smoke. I immediately opened the microwave to find the Hover cover melted and in flames. I put the fire out and found that my microwave was ruined. I then opened my kitchen door to alleviate the smoke. Afterwards I checked on line to find numerous identical complaints about this product. It is CLEARLY not microwave safe and could have easily started my kitchen on fire if I hadn’t have entered the kitchen when I did

First aid Made Aug 6, 2019, sent to the company Aug 14, 2019, published by CPSC Sep 4, 2019
The product, in the report: Hover Cover® Microwave Splatter Cover | Model HHO1111 is the new microwave splatter guard that uses microwave-safe, polymer-encased magnets that secure to the roof of your microwave, so it is always ready to use. Just pull down to cover and when you’re done, lift and let it hover! Best of all its BPA-free, always cool to the touch, and dishwasher safe.
I was using an Allstar Innovations Hover Cover Magnetic Microwave Splash Guard as per instructions in my microwave oven . I heard what sounded like a “gun shot “ blast from inside the microwave and found one of the magnets had “ exploded” out of the plastic housing . I stopped the microwave as soon as I heard the “pop” and opened the door to smell stinky melted plastic and observed melted plastic splattered onto the food underneath along with one of the magnets . I burned my finger picking up the lid on the melted plastic taking the cover out of the microwave . I later took photos of the melted plastic lid and magnet that “exploded”. I tried to return the item to BB&B and was told by a clerk It was past 30 days and I needed to contact the manufacturer. What led me to contact you is that I found out I sm not the only consumer with this complaint. BB&B, Amazon, QVC and Target all have 1 star customer reviews reporting incidents including microwave fires Some show photos of the burned plastic. including photos of microwave oven fires from melted plastic surrounding the magnets. Below are some of them; “One of the magnets exploded and made a horrible mess, I do NOT recommend this product January 2, 2018” “ This just exploded in my microwave! “ “One of the magnets exploded and made a horrible mess”, “After using the cover for a week then the magnet started burning inside the microwave! Luckily my husband saw the sparks inside the microwave.”, “did not like the product. It caught on fire“,”his product completely malfunctioned. The black plastic overtop the magnets melted and exposed the metal from the magnets. This metal melted a hole in the roof of my microwave. Hover cover advised me to immediately stop using my microwave. Me and my family may have been subject to radiation since this occurred, and my 1 year old microwave is trash” “ I had this attached to the top of my Microwave oven while boiling a cup of water for Tea it was a good thing I was standing in the kitchen . I smelled plastic BURNING and looked inside the oven and this thing was sparking and stater to go up in flames and now my microwave oven smells of bunt plastic”. “lastic melted causing magnet to come out of its compartment and drop into food”” it worked fine until today. One of the magnets has melted and burned the inside top of my microwave. Look at my picture”””all of the sudden today, caught fire while heating food for one minute. Luckily, we were in the kitchen and was able to put out the flames with a beach towel we had nearby””THIS ITEM STARTED ON FIRE WHEN I USED IT, SO BE VERY CAREFUL ””Awful you should not sell started sparking and small fire during a 30 second cycle.”” This product was great for quite some time. Then one day while . Hot butter splattered on the top, melted it, and it caught on fire inside the microwave. It destroyed my microwave.“ “ heating up some food the cover caught fire and burned a hole in my microwave. Luckily we were nearby and stopped the microwave before the fire could spread through the kitchen and possibly our entire home. I contacted the seller to inquire about this hazard with no response.””One of the magnets caught on fire. Thank goodness I was at the microwave to take out while on fire.” Thank God the plastic did not catch on fire in my microwave.

The product, in the report: Hover Cover is a microwaveable cover for food that has magnets to attach to microwave by magnets
In February (2019), a Hover Cover caught fire in my microware. This product has magnets so the cover can rest inside the microwave ceiling when not being used. It appears the fire occurred when accidentally turning on the microwave without any food in the microwave. Had to remove cover from microwave with oven gloves as it was on fire. Inside of microware was never on fire but soot and imprint of magnet were permanently burnt into roof of microwave. Conversed thru email several times with Hover Cover contact [REDACTED]. Per her request I sent her pictures and model number of microwave. [REDACTED] final response was they could not assist me since fires can occur in microwaves when turned on without food in them. Ironically, I was trying to help them with a safety issue, but it appears they were only interested in protecting their product. At a minimum, their response should have been that they would consider putting warning stickers on the product. It appears I wasn’t the only one experiencing their product causing fires based on internet complaints.

Hover Cover Magnetic Microwave Splatter Guard. “securely stores in your microwave so it is always ready for use” Trademark of EPD, Distributed by Allstar Products Group. Hawthorne, NY 10532.
Received 12/21/2018 as gift and has been stored and used in the microwave since. Today 12/28/2018 my husband used the microwave with the hover cover in it’s stored space attached to the roof of the microwave. He noticed a “brightening and sparks” in the microwave and stopped it. We found the hover cover had one of the magnets melted and what he saw was a fire starting. (photos available) . Luckily he was watching the microwave or our whole house with 4 people in it could have had a major incident. It appears this product has been reported in the past and same issues are reported in the product reviews on other websites. Very dangerous, should not be on the market.

The product, in the report: Hover Cover - a magnetic microwave cover to prevent splatters that can be lifted up and stored at the top of the microwave.
MIcrowave Food Cover Meltdown
Purchased 2 microwave food covers, know widely as a Hover Cover.
Contains magnets that allow the cover to be attached and stored on the ceiling of the microwave.
I did not witness the actual meltdown, but the magnets on the one we were using are melted and much of the plastic around it..
THIS presents a Fire and a food safety hazard.
I contacted the EBay sellr, [REDACTED] and this was the reply.
Hi, friend, so sorry for the problem you mentioned. We will surely report them to the supplier, please understand. In this case, could we refund $10 to you and you don’t need to post them back to us? Not bother you to return, helping you to save the postage and hassel of the post. Also, I noticed that they had at least one negative feedback in the last month where the buyer said, “It caught fire inside of my microwave” I believe this is the same product.
It also appears that the ones on TV and the ones on EBAY are identical in appearance, so I bekleive they all come from the same manufacturer.
HELP, This is a serious problem!!!!!
