  1. No one hurt

Made Jun 26, 2014, sent to the company Jul 23, 2014, published by CPSC Aug 6, 2014

The product, in the report: Farberware Soft Grip Ceramic Peeler, sold at Walmart http://www.walmart.com/ip/Farberware-Soft-Grip-Ceramic-Peeler/17813013 Black, straight peeler. Mostly plastic, with a single-edged ceramic blade.

Re-sending, as it appears the first attempt didn’t go through...

Farberware Soft Grip Ceramic Peeler http://www.walmart.com/ip/Farberware-Soft-Grip-Ceramic-Peeler/17813013

The ceramic blade on this peeler is held in place by a very flimsy plastic cradle, with an equally flimsy plastic locking tab, inadequately glued together to hold the blade in place.

In normal use, the pressure on the peeler is enough to flex the cradle, break the glue bond, and pop out the locking tab and ceramic blade out. For us, this happened after a few uses. Another reviewer on Walmart.com said it happened on the first use.

A small, razor sharp ceramic blade is hazardous to pick up, esp. for kids or the elderly. God forbid that it gets into someones food. As it is white ceramic, it looks like plastic, so nobody would expect it to be sharp.

While we were unharmed, this is an accident waiting to happen.
