  1. Emergency room

Made Jun 24, 2026, sent to the company Jun 29, 2026, published by CPSC Jul 14, 2026

The product, in the report: Husky T16630-2 (rolling trash bin) with Lid 95U-11 Made by Rehrig

Severe head injury caused by Husky T16630-2 with Lid 95U-11, a rolling trash bin, that was provided by the city for automated pickup. It caused a severe gash and bruising/swelling to my head, including an ER visit, 9 stitches, CT scan, follow-up visits, permanent scar. It occurred when I attempted to roll the empty bin a very short distance, unfortunately with the lid open since I was unaware of its design flaw. The bin flipped very fast and whacked my forehead with its sharp front edge. Only after the injury did I find the embossed (same color as the bin, so difficult to see) recommendation on the bin which suggests only moving the bin with the lid on. This is not common knowledge. I believe the bin/lid design is flawed in many ways. Primarily, the lid extends too close to the ground when open causing imbalance of the bin and a tripping hazard. Also, the edge of the bin is too sharp - it should be rounded. The extra large bin is in general too top-heavy. Since the manufacturer (Rehrig) is apparently aware of the hazards, the warning should be made much clearer and obvious so it cannot be overlooked so easily. I emailed to rehrig but never heard back from them. Recently I came across an memo from your office’s website which noted several similar injuries so I decided to to report mine to you as well. Hope something changes before more injuries occur.

  2. Emergency room

Made Jan 11, 2023, sent to the company Jan 17, 2023, published by CPSC Jan 31, 2023

The product, in the report: Green residential type trash bin. Husky Brand 28” x 32” with lid.

I went to move my large trash bin ( the ones the trash truck picks up, made by Husky). I had the lid flipped open. I moved it less than 6 inches when it threw me forward and launched the bin toward me , hitting me on my right eye and across the bridge of my nose. It almost knocked me out. I had to be transported by ambulance to the hospital where I had 15 stitches. The lid has a statement embossed that says “do not move with the lid open.” The statement is barely noticible. Apparently this has happened many times before and they are aware of it prompting the manufacturer to install the embossed statement. There are many [REDACTED] videos of people getting hurt this way. I do not drink alcohol or do drugs and this should not be happening.
