  1. No one hurt

Made Jul 12, 2026, sent to the company Jul 15, 2026, published by CPSC Jul 29, 2026

The product, in the report: ELLO&ALLO Garbage Can Motion Sensor Trash Can 8 Gallon for Kitchen with Roll Up Lid, Automatic Touch Free High-Capacity Black Waste Bin 13 gallons, Item Dimensions L x W x H 14.5”L x 9.8”W x 26.7”H

I purchased a motion operated trash can from Amazon, seller is [REDACTED]. I read all instructions and feel I installed the batteries correctly. The unit didn’t work, after a few tries I decided to check batteries. The compartment was very hot to the touch, two of the four batteries had melted. I contacted company, they said it was because I installed batteries incorrectly. Even if that was the case they shouldn’t melt. I persisted then they tried to shift blame to the batteries, that they didn’t have some sort of protection circuit. These were fresh [REDACTED] AA alkaline batteries. There was nothing mentioned in the instructions about incorrect installation of batteries or certain types of batteries needing a “protection circuit” or they will get hot and melt. Company has refunded my money, I insisted they pick up the defective unit to investigate the failure, they refused. Had indicated this has happened to other customers.
