  1. No one hurt

Made Mar 1, 2013, sent to the company Mar 29, 2013, published by CPSC Apr 12, 2013

The product, in the report: 8 qt. Pressure Cooker

Caller’s dad purchased an 8qt pressure cooker and presented it to her July/August 2012 and although she has only used it a couple of times she has had no problems with it until March 1st, 2013 when she was cooking beans in it with plenty of water and her child was sitting about 2 feet away playing with magnets on the fridge.

After cooking approximately 30 minutes with the units temperature set to medium, the caller heard a sound like pressure and spewing liquid and she turned around to see steam and water spewing and billowing all over the kitchen. Initial sound was a loud pressurized release.

The steam filled the room during the 5 to 10 second spewing the water out of the pressure cooker. steam was very thick fog. Almost looked like smoke, but wasn’t.

Once it stopped spewing the water out, she then grabbed a kitchen towel to reach over and turn the pressure cooker off.

After it cooled a bit she began trying to open the cooker, she had a lot of trouble opening but after 20 or 30 seconds she got it opened and found that there was almost no liquid left in the cooker. It was pressure sealed shut even though all steam had left.

Caller has not contacted the manufacturer but does intend to contact them.

    There were no injuries.
