  1. First aid

Made Apr 27, 2026, sent to the company Apr 30, 2026, published by CPSC May 14, 2026

The product, in the report: Product name: Our Place Dream Cooker Type: Electric multi-cooker with pressure cook, slow cook, saute/sear, and keep warm functions Capacity: 6 quarts Color: Steam (light beige/tan) Manufacturer: Our Place (fromourplace.com) Purchased from: Amazon.com, sold by Our Place Date purchased: September 17, 2025 Price: 199.00 dollars

While I was using the Our Place Dream Cooker with the lid fully locked and properly sealed, the unit violently failed during operation. I was standing right next to it. The lid was forcefully ejected across the room and the pressurized hot contents were propelled with enough force to coat my kitchen ceiling, range hood, upper cabinets, backsplash, countertops, and stovetop. The hot food struck me directly. I sustained burns to my wrist and hot food splattered into my hair. Because I was standing close to the cooker, as anyone using it would be, I had no way to avoid being hit. The lid was locked in place at the time of the failure. This was not user error. The product is marketed as having nine built-in safety mechanisms specifically designed to prevent this kind of failure, including a pressure limit valve, safety lock, lid detection switch, pressure sensor, temperature sensor, and thermal protection circuit. All of these systems failed. The injuries could easily have been far more severe, including to my face, eyes, or to a child or family member nearby. The product, including the lid and all components, has been preserved in its post-failure condition.
