No one hurt Made Jun 18, 2026, sent to the company Jun 23, 2026, published by CPSC Jul 9, 2026
The product, in the report: The product is a Ninja Foodi Smart XL Pressure Cooker Steam Fryer with SmartLid, Model Number OL601. It is a multi-functional countertop kitchen appliance with an 8-quart capacity. Physically, the unit features a distinctive brushed stainless steel finish on the main body with a heavy-duty black plastic base and a large, attached black plastic lid (SmartLid mechanism) that houses the integrated steam and crisping vents. The front interface consists of a digital control display panel with touch buttons and a central dial knob for multi-cook function selection. Its approximate dimensions are 14.21 inches in width, 15.39 inches in length, and 13.07 inches in height, weighing roughly 25 pounds. The appliance operates on standard 120V electrical input power.
On April 14, 2026, at approximately 1:45 AM, a severe product safety failure occurred involving a Ninja Foodi unit (Model OL601). The appliance was plugged into a standard 120V residential kitchen outlet but was completely powered off and not actively running or in use at the time of the incident.
The consumer woke up to a heavy, suffocating presence of toxic electrical smoke and discovered an active fire originating strictly from inside the base and internal electronic components of the appliance. The fire was aggressively spreading from the unit to the surrounding kitchen structure. The consumer immediately utilized a personal chemical fire extinguisher to suppress the flames, successfully mitigating a catastrophic house fire and preventing total structural loss.
Two household residents witnessed the immediate aftermath, documenting extensive soot, smoke distribution, and physical property damage to the kitchen cabinets, countertops, and adjacent appliances. No physical injuries or deaths occurred, but severe respiratory irritation from toxic smoke inhalation and immense psychological and emotional distress were sustained due to the life-threatening nature of the spontaneous ignition in the middle of the night.
The manufacturer was notified (Case #[REDACTED]) and abruptly denied liability without performing a forensic engineering inspection of the unit, demonstrating an unacceptable management of a critical public safety hazard. The product represents an immediate electrical and fire risk to consumers.

The product, in the report: Ninja foodie pressure Cooker (Model OP301)
I am submitting an incident report regarding a burn injury caused by a Ninja Pressure Cooker (Model OP301). While using the product to prepare a rib steak soup, I set the timer and opened the pressure valve as instructed, then briefly left the kitchen. When I returned, the safety lock was down, even though there should still have been pressure in the cooker. Believing it was safe, I opened the lid, and hot liquid immediately splashed onto my abdomen and leg, causing a 13-inch burn on my abdomen and multiple smaller burns on my leg. This occurred despite following the manufacturers instructions, and it shows a serious safety failure with the product.

No one hurt Made Oct 7, 2025, sent to the company Oct 29, 2025, published by CPSC Nov 26, 2025
The product, in the report: OL601 Series Ninja Foodi XL Pressure Cooker Steam Fryer with SmartLid 8qt
I was cooking food at home using a Ninja Foodi OL601 combination pressure cooker/air fryer when the top of the appliance emitted smoke, and I could hear electrical arcing. I believed that the lid heating element was soiled by food residue, so I unplugged the product and allowed it to cool. Then I detached some lid components in order to access and clean the heating element. However, I found that insulation on one of the electrical wires to the heating element had failed, causing the insulation to pull back and the bare metal conductor to be exposed inside the lid. The bare wire lead shorted out against adjacent metal inside the lid. Nobody was injured. However, I believe that this issue represents an electrical shock and fire hazard. The appliance was not repairable from this damage and was disposed of. No other property was damaged.

No one hurt Made Aug 13, 2025, sent to the company Aug 20, 2025, published by CPSC Sep 4, 2025
The product, in the report: Ninja Foodi OL601 XL Smart Lock 14-in-1, 8 quart.
I am writing regarding my Ninja Foodi OL601C 14-in-1 Smart Lock 8qt (S/N: Q29RJ205Z1Q2), still in warranty registered with SharkNinja (Shark). My Ninja has developed concerning issues heavy steam coming out of the dome lid while in the steam crisp mode. I have taken care of the product very meticulously and have looked through all available resources to troubleshoot. After much research, I have concluded that the product has malfunctioned in less than a year. Shark has recalled its OP models and discontinued all OL SmartLid/pressure cooking models due to injuries suffered by users. The heavy steam on the Dome Lid is very concerning to me.
On August 6, 2025, at [REDACTED] PM, I contacted customer service at Shark to resolve the issue. He mentioned that I needed to cut the cord first, send an email to prove that it was completed before SharkNinja would send the replacement item. After almost half-an-hour interaction/ being held on call, he did not disclose until I probed further that no comparable replacement model was available due to the discontinuation of multi-cookers with the pressure-cooking function. The pressure-cooking function is a core feature that motivated my purchase. I find the withholding of critical information - the replacement is not the same item I bought- misleading and deeply concerning. After my third attempt raising my grouses with Shark, a representative emailed me on August 12th .
Shark offered a 5-quart FD101 (pressure cooker + air fryer) plus an additional air fryer of my choice. This is unacceptable because: 1. FD101 is smaller (5 qt vs. my 8 qt) and cannot meet my original cooking volume needs. 2. The extra air fryer duplicates existing functions, adds clutter, and undermines my original space-saving purpose. 3. FD101 is older stock and future parts support is questionable, given current poor support. 4. Verified consumer reports show OL601C frequently fails within 1-2 years, often with identical lid/wiring faults.
I contacted Amazon 7 times (email/phone) for assistance with no resolution. This violates: - Virginia Consumer Protection Act ( 59.1-196 et seq.) - Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act (15 U.S.C. 23012312) - Uniform Commercial Code 2-314
As the original retailer, Amazon shares responsibility. I request a full refund from SharkNinja or Amazon.
Furthermore, there are widespread customer complaints online indicating that similar Smart Lock models often fail not long after the warranty period; raising serious questions about the longevity and value of SharkNinjas high-end multi-cooking appliances.
As a resident of [REDACTED], I am protected under the Virginia Consumer Protection Act ( 59.1-196 et seq.), which prohibits deceptive or unfair business practices. I also cite the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act and the Uniform Commercial Code ( 2-314), which guarantee consumers reasonably durable and functional goods.
Given:
The premium price of the unit, Its in-warranty status, The lack of a comparable price-point and functionality replacement, And rather deceptive handling of my support interaction, I believe a full refund is the most fair and reasonable resolution. Unfortunately, Shark has refused a refund.

The product, in the report: Ninja Foodi Tendercrisp - Pressure Cooker
“I received the Ninja Foodie for my birthday on April 26, 2019. The item was purchased by my husband, [REDACTED] at Target for the special birthday. On May 6, 2019, I used the Ninja Foodi 301, Model# OP301 107 (6.5 quart, serial number A 11JJ202Z4K3) to prepare a beef stew for dinner, when the unit exploded and sprayed the hot contents all over my abdomen, causing second degree burns over most of my abdomen. Per the instruction manual, I ptaced the ingredients in the pot, secured the pressure cooking lid to lock, and turned the steam valve to the “seal” position. I turned on the pressure cooking option and watched as the unit displayed the loading screen indicating the cooker was building pressure and heat. Steam started to escape the machine, yet everything was in the locked and sealed position. Concerned, I turned the valve to vent to release all of the pressure and steam from the machine. After the steam stopped coming out, I powered off the machine by selecting the power button and unplugged the machine. r then went to retrieve the owner’s manual. While standing in front of the machine reading the owner’s manual, the lid exploded off like a bomb sending hot liquid all over my abdomen and kitchen. By pure dumb luck, my children were not in the kitchen at the time of the explosion and were not harmed. This item had been used successfully three times prior this incident. I have been left with permanent heat sensitivity and scarring all over lower abdomen.”

The product, in the report: Ninja Foodi Cooker Model OP305CO
On Sunday, February 2nd I used the Ninja Foodi which I received as a Christmas gift and it exploded on me! My whole left forearm has 2nd degree burns, my stomach and part of my right arm as well. My children and boyfriend were 3ft away from the Ninja when this all happened and thankfully, they were not injured - just sprayed with the hot water but I have substantial injuries to my body. This should have never happened!!! It is not my first time using this product and I have made plenty of meals in it without an issue until this Sunday.
