No one hurt Made Sep 28, 2026, sent to the company Oct 5, 2026, published by CPSC Oct 27, 2026
The product, in the report: Black and silver 6 qt instant pot.
Instant pot exploded. I was making a pot roast in my instant pot. While preparing the food before pressurizing it, i got a Food Burn error as if the food was glazing to the bottom. However it had not and there was sufficient liquid in the bottom. About 5 to 10 minutes after it reached pressure, I noticed the pressure relief valve was leaking slightly. It continued to do so and had done this on several other occasions. About 20 minutes after it reached pressure, the leaking at the pressure relief valve became more substantial. While standing next to it, perusing amazon for a replacement valve, the pot jetted delicious, but incredibly hot pot roast through the seal between the lid and pot. Luckily it mostly shot the opposite direction of myself. Only a bit hit my face and hair. My clothes were surprisingly clean, but I can’t say this about my walls, ceiling, windows, kitchen, dining table, silverware drawer, pantry, couch, etc. Etc. I have a video of the incident.

No incident, no one hurt Made Aug 11, 2026, sent to the company Aug 14, 2026, published by CPSC Aug 31, 2026
The product, in the report: Model: Viva 80 Capacity: 8 quart Power: 1200 W Working pressure: 80 kPa Manufacturer/brand: Instant Pot
Incident involving Instant Pot Viva 80 8-quart pressure cooker
I am reporting a potentially serious pressure-release incident involving an Instant Pot Viva 80, 8-quart electric pressure cooker, rated 1200 W with an 80 kPa working pressure.
During the last several uses, I noticed that the weighted steam-release valve was becoming unreliable about sealing. On the day of the incident, the valve initially would not seal while the cooker was coming to pressure. I adjusted/repositioned the weighted steam-release valve until it seated and the cooker subsequently pressurized normally.
Approximately 20 minutes later, while the cooker was operating under pressure, we heard a loud bang from another part of the house. When we entered the kitchen, a substantial quantity of chicken broth had been violently expelled from the cooker. Broth had sprayed high enough to reach the ceiling and was dripping from the ceiling, walls, and covering/flooding portions of the countertops and floor.
The weighted steam-release valve remained attached to the lid following the incident.
The cooker was not overfilled. I routinely clean the steam-release valve, steam-release passages and associated lid components after use, and the vent passages were clean.
There was also a potentially relevant symptom during the previous use of the cooker. I heard an unusual series of rapid repetitive clicking sounds from the appliance. I am familiar with the occasional clicking the cooker normally makes as the heating system cycles, but this was noticeably different and consisted of repeated rapid clicking (“click-click-click-clickidy-click-click”) for a period of time. It almost sounded musical.
I do not know whether the steam-release valve itself failed, whether the cooker experienced an abnormal pressure-control condition, or whether another component malfunctioned. I am reporting the observations rather than attempting to determine the cause.
Because of the force of the discharge and the amount of hot liquid expelled, I believe this could have caused serious burns had someone been standing near the cooker at the time.
I have discontinued use of the appliance and retained the cooker, lid, steam-release valve and other components in their post-incident condition. I can provide photographs of the appliance, model/data label, lid and components and additional information if needed.

No one hurt Made Jan 5, 2026, sent to the company Jan 8, 2026, published by CPSC Jan 23, 2026
The product, in the report: Instant Pot Duo Nova 7-in-1 Electric Pressure Cooker, Slow Cooker, Rice Cooker, Steamer, Saute, Yogurt Maker, 3 Quart. Purchased on Amazon on July 30, 2021 and used regularly.
While the Instant Pot was in use, it suddenly and violently released all internal pressure and contents at once around the lid seal. This was not a normal steam vent or gradual pressure release. The discharge was instantaneous, forceful, and extremely loudcomparable to a gunshot. Superheated steam and food were expelled outward, splattering rice and liquid across the kitchen, with debris found as far as approximately 15 feet from the unit.
Fortunately, no one was injured only because we were standing approximately 30 feet away at the time. If anyone had been closer, this could have caused severe burns or scalding injuries. No visible components cracked or shattered; the failure appeared to be an uncontrolled pressure release through the lid seal rather than a designed safety vent. The unit has been unplugged and will not be used again.

The product, in the report: Instant Pot Duo Mini
I own an Instant Pot Duo Mini (serial number 181030.7815), purchased in Boston in 2017-2018 (I dont remember exactly when and where).
While cooking beans last week, the unit was fully pressurized for about 10 minutes when there was a loud bang. The lid flew off and boiling water sprayed around the kitchen. The pot had been properly sealed, and the valve was set to Sealing.
Thankfully no one was seriously hurt, but this was a serious safety failure. The unit is now clearly unsafe to use.

No one hurt Made Mar 1, 2025, sent to the company Mar 10, 2025, published by CPSC Mar 24, 2025
The product, in the report: Instant Pot, pressure cooker, slow cooker
I was using my Instant Pot and I heard poping or spark noise, hard to describe sound. Suddenly all lights flashing and beeping noise. I hurried and unplugged it. I looked up on line what this error code was and found it to be a defective heating element. Prior to using it for dinner on Thursday the inside was fine I only ever wiped it with a dry paper towel because nothing gets in the inside only the removable pot. However after the popping and blinking with beeping. I took removable food pot out and the bottom of the pot the paint was literally bubbled like it was burned. Apparently this is a KNOWN PROBLEM. My concern is this could catch houses on fire this is an electrical issue. At first they tried to blame me but I asked for a supervisor because I have never done anything wrong to this, I use it maybe 1/2 times a week. Sometimes I go for weeks without using it. However I never misused it like they tried to blame me. The error code on front is clear indication that this is an electrical problem. I felt like since this is a known problem on line. A problem the company hasnt made a recall over, I should make a report, because if someone was using it in slow cooker mode and this electrical heating element went out it could potentially start an electrical fire. I would have expected Instant Pot to recall items with known electrical issues. But I did not see anything that shows a recall on line.

The product, in the report: Instant Pot Duo Evo Plus [REDACTED] link... [REDACTED]
My Instant Pot Duo spontaneously arced and caught fire. It was plugged in, but not in use for weeks and did not even have a pot liner in it. The fire response report indicates the instant pot was the source of the fire and that there were possible arcing marks. It was on top of the gas range, but the gas range has never been used and I’ve been there 6 years. The instant pot was regularly used 2/3 times a week. I reported it to instant pot customer service and they basically poo pooed it. I’m reporting out of concern for public safety. I arrived 20 seconds before fire rescue and was able to get my dog out. There was nothing around the pot to catch fire, so the building survived and the fire was basically out when the fire department arrived. Heavy smoke damage. Here is a link to to 12 minutes of the event. I have 90 minutes of video from before the flash to fire rescue removing the smoke. Here is the [REDACTED] link... [REDACTED] I also uploaded a shorter video.

The product, in the report: Instapot mini purchased from Walmart Webster NY last month.
Yesterday, I was using my Insta pot that I purchased a month ago. As I was putting something in the part on the sauté setting I was electrocuted I was able to somehow pull away or let go of the conduction during being electricuted or i would be here typing this. It was a large electric shock as my hand arm and right side of body still is hurting. I am scared to use the pot again and don’t understand what could have occurred. I was not using anything metal it was simply my hand placing some thing in the pot aligning it on the bottom of the pan with the metal insert in place correctly. This is very very very dangerous what steps should I take to notify consumers and the company so nobody gets killed.

The product, in the report: Instant Pot pressure cooker. Serial number included in this report.
My instant pot exploded in my face. Rice went everywhere and my wife was burned on her arms. When cleaning up the incredible mess, I found a sheered off screw, washer, and lock washer located in the bottom of the unit.

The product, in the report: Instant Pot Gem 65 8-in-1 1728
I received an Instant Pot as a birthday gift and last week we had an incident involving the instant Pot. We had it on to cook and my husband notice smoke coming out from it and he unplugged it and moved it away from my counter and there he saw that the countertop was burned from the instant pot. We then heard about the recall and we are inquiring about a replacement and refund for the countertop that was damaged by the recall instant pot.
We look forward to hearing from you soon.
