The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

  1. No one hurt

Made Nov 6, 2017, sent to the company Mar 14, 2018, published by CPSC Mar 29, 2018

The product, in the report: Elite Platinum Electric Pressure Cooker, 4 quart, red

The electric pressure cooker seemingly blew out its seal and spewed boiling liquid and food onto the ceiling, cabinets, appliances and floor of the kitchen and the furniture and floor of an adjacent room (I measured the furthest point of splatter at 13 feet). It was on minute 53 of a 60 minute cycle. It had water and vegetable scraps in it. The contents were below the max line. I did make sure that the seal was firmly and correctly seated before I started the machine.

I was saute/cooking in the pressure cooker. It was not pressurized. It was open as I was not finish adding product. Suddenly I heard a whoosh sound. Then the base was glowing. Next fire began to blow out of the plug port. I unplugged it and it went out.

I TURNED ON MY ELITE PLATINUM ELECTRIC PRESSURE COOKER AND 5 MINUTES LATER IT CAUGHT ON FIRE BURNING IT AND MY STOVE THAT IT WAS SITTING ON. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT RESPONDED, MY HOUSE WAS FULL OF BLACK SMOKE FROM THE MELTING PLASTIC. AFTER IT WAS PUT OUT WE DETERMINED THAT THE THERMOSTAT INSIDE THE BOTTOM OF THE UNIT SHORTED OUT AND CAUGHT FIRE. WE’VE MADE NUMEROUS ATTEMPTS TO CONTACT THE MANUFACTURER (MAXI-MATIC) LOCATED IN CALIFORNIA. WE’VE SENT PICTURES OF THEIR FAULTY UNIT, MY BURNED STOVE, AND ALL THE BLACK SMOKE DAMAGE. THIS WAS THE 4TH TIME I HAD USED THIS UNIT. IT WAS PURCHASED IN DECEMBER 2015.

Made Jul 26, 2014, sent to the company Aug 4, 2014, published by CPSC Aug 18, 2014

The product, in the report: Elite 13 Function 8 Quart Pressure Cooker.

I purchased an Elite 8 Quart Pressure Cooker in May, 2014. On June 12, 2014, I was cooking white chili in my pressure cooker. I had cooked the chicken and onions until tender. I expelled the pressure in the cooker. After it was safe to open the cooker, I added a few additional ingredients which didn’t take as much time to cook as the chicken. I replaced the lid on the cooker and started the pressure cooker again. It began to increase in pressure but didn’t sound exactly as it had before. It was not to have built pressure if everything was not operating correctly. I leaned over the cooker to see if there was a problem and it exploded in my face. I had to go to the emergency room with 2nd degree burns on my scalp, face, shoulder and back. I was hospitalized and have had some other complications after the injuries. I am still in the process of healing.
