On Sept 11, 2020, I was in my kitchen cooking oxtails in my Casa essential pressure cooker. I would say about 20 minutes into cooking I felt this big explosion as my body felt like it was going into shock. My husband came running in the bathroom as he was scared to tell me i had gotten burn and didnt know it. I took off of my clothes because my body felt like it was on fire......I had burns on my stomach the left side, below my stomach, my private area, thighs and between my inner thighs. I didnt call the Doctor until I got alarmed about the blisters that came on my body.

The product, in the report: Casa Essentials 5 quart pressure cooker

purchased a Casa Essentials pressure cooker a few years ago at Macy’s. I had used previous cookers and this cooker as well without incident. I placed ingredients for stew, following instruction to not overfill the cooker, and cooked the stew for 17 minutes after it came up to pressure. After cooking I waited for about 20-30 minutes and pulled off the regulator to check for any residual pressure. There was no steam released and no sound of steam. I then opened the pressure cooker and as I did so, it exploded, and the stew contents hit my chest, neck and face which left me with first and second degree burns. I sought medical attention immediately. Apparently the locking mechanism which should have prevented me from opening the cooker while under pressure did not function. I did not have to use force to open the cooker. It opened easily.

Made Dec 12, 2014, sent to the company Dec 22, 2014, published by CPSC Jan 8, 2015

The product, in the report: Aluminum/stainless pressure cooker with silicon seal, black plastic handle, black plastic bale hande and black pressue valve.

I bought this pressure cooker within the last year, but only began using it recently, and I have been using it a lot. About 30 minutes ago, I was making some turkey stock. My stock had been under pressure for about 40 minutes when I heard an awful shrieking sound and ran downstairsto find stock all over the kitchen and a missing pressure indicator mechanism. Looks like it literally blew out. Had any of us been in the kitchen, we would have been scalded. Also, i guess this could have caused a fire under some circumstances. At any rate, it’s unacceptable.

The product, in the report: Casa Essentials Aluminum Pressure Cooker

I bought a Casa Essentials Pressure cooker. I cooked on it a couple of times and it was okay. The third time, the steam and water exploded out of the cooker and I burned myself with the hot water gushing out of the pressure cooker. Thankfully it did not get into my eyes otherwise, I could have been blinded.
