The product, in the report: Solar Roof Panels
Caller stated that she feels that she might experience the hazard of recall #14-138. Her solar panel quit working a few months ago and she discovered that the Open Energy 34 watt (OE-34) Solar Panel energy systems was sold under the brand name Open Energy SolarSave Roofing Tiles. SolarSave panels replace conventional roof tiles and provide solar power to the building. However, after getting several electrical contractors to examine the panels she was told that they could cause a fire although they were not working they were still active.
3/9/15 The builder was contacted by phone and email in regards to the recall by another builder but no one has responded as yet.
The panels were installed her new home by the builder William Lyon homes approximately 6 years ago. She feels that the builder should take responsibility for these panels because they are a fire hazard.
Caller also stated that the manufacturer went out of business and the state of California have banned these solar panels to be installed in homes sometime recently.
Caller is concerned that her home is at risk with this solar panel starting a house fire.
