    Dear CPSC Team,

I am writing to report a serious product safety concern involving a TP-Link Kasa Smart Plug Power Strip HS300, Surge Protector with 6 Individually Controlled Smart Outlets and 3 USB Ports, that caught fire during normal operation. The device was lightly loaded and being used to power standard home electronics.

The incident occurred while a licensed electrician happened to be onsite. He immediately shut off the main breaker, preventing a potential house fire. Nonetheless, the power strip began to melt, expand, and deform, emitting smoke and a strong chemical odor that quickly spread throughout the home. Several plugs connected to the strip were also damaged and had to be replaced. My wife, our dog, and I were present and inhaled the smoke. The odor remains embedded in recently painted walls, which may now require professional cleaning.

The device is ETL listed, yet it clearly failed in a way that poses serious risk to life and property. We are concerned that this may represent a broader safety issue affecting other consumers.

I urge your office to investigate the safety of this product and whether similar incidents have been reported. We are available to provide photos, access to the physical device, and contact information for the electrician who witnessed and handled the emergency.

    Sincerely,

    [REDACTED]
